I went here with my girlfriend because we read on the website that there is a quiz every Thursday. Since the website makes a point about booking a table in advance for these occasions, we reserved one by phone specifically mentioning ”quiz night”.
When we arrived, no one greeted us at the entrance, so we just took a vacant table. Still without anyone approaching us five minutes later, I drew the attention of a member of the pub staff for a menu. We ordered drinks and two meals. The drinks came quickly, but after 20 minutes with no food, another server came by to ask if we had also ordered food (we were ready with cutlery in front of us); apparently no meal order had been registered. We placed the same order again, and after some time one meal was served. When I asked about the second one, I was told only one had been ordered. So, I ordered again, and another meal was finally served some time later.
I have nothing bad to say about my meal, but my girlfriend didn’t like hers at all and didn’t finish it. An aside: the mustard on the table had expired three months ago.
By this time, the quiz should have started long ago, and it was apparent there would be none. Before leaving, I asked about the Thursday quizzes and was told they were on a summer break. I found it odd that the person who took our booking didn’t mention this and that the website hadn’t been updated with this information.
Cozy place with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff, but the service was...
Read moreWe visited on a Saturday afternoon for some lunch and to watch rugby. The guy who sorted our beers and food was great, keeping us topped up!
We asked if (after some problems with the streaming) there was a chance to get the rugby played with English commentary (my mum was visiting from the UK). The guy looking after us said it might not be possible but would check. We overhead the conversation he had with the manager (we were sat 5m across the bar) which resulted in the manager saying "tell them to ** off".
I get that it's stressful, probably lots of people asking the same question, lots of people with high expectations, etc. but it's unprofessional to say that in front of all customers and loud enough for people to hear. Why not take a step into the kitchen behind closed doors and rage about the annoying customers? I used to do it all the time when I worked in a bar! Also, don't take it out on your colleagues.
Overall our food was good, drinks were good, but I won't be going back there ever again due to the behaviour of...
Read moreSouthside Pub has a really nice atmosphere inside, ofcourse what you expect big screens with the current soccer game. Asside from that really nice seats, where you can have a seat at the bar, table or even the couches at the tables.
There is plenty to pick from of the menu, i went for the homemade stew with a glass of Oban. Both of those were really good, the meatstew had some nice peas and mash with it and it was a generous pour of Oban.
The service was also really good, never had to wait long to be helped in case i had a question about the food or the drinks!
All in all good place for some comforting...
