We ordered fried rice with chicken and the Thai beef noodle soup. The soup tasted great and the fried rice was alright.
The reason I'm giving 3 stars is because of the pricing. On the menu inside, the price of fried rice is 23 CHF (+2 for chicken), but we were charged 26 CHF. The menu on the outside of the restaurant had even stated that fried rice was 22 CHF (again +2 for chicken), with no indication that it was a lunch menu with cheaper prices or anything like that. So we ended up paying 2CHF more than initially expected. We would not have gotten fried rice had we known the actual price -- it cost the same as my noodle soup, but for a much more basic dish.
It's fine if prices are updated occasionally, but I believe the menu should reflect the changes. We didn't notice until after we had left or I would have pointed it out...
Read moreI usually enjoy the noodle dishes here—they’ve always been excellent. Today, I tried a dish served with rice, but the rice was undercooked, dry, and crunchy. I let the staff know, and they brought a replacement, but it was the same. After mentioning it again, they said they're re-cooking the rice with more water. The process took quite a while, and by then, my companion had already finished eating. It’s surprising to get improperly cooked rice—especially at an Asian restaurant, where rice is such a staple. That being said, I appreciated their effort to resolve the issue and their gesture of not charging...
Read moreOrder Khaosoi and it was surprisingly better than the one I tried in Bangkok. I’m pretty skeptical to Asian food in Basel as they’re usually the “adjusted” version to cater to western palate but the Khaosoi here was sooooo goood. The soup is super rich in taste, full of spices, noodle was at the right texture and creamy. Portion is also big (i couldnt finish it). Price was a bit on the higher side but pretty normal for Basel and I understand the amount of labor behind this noodle so it was worth it. Will come back again to try...
