Spent nearly a week at this bar and from the start the service was less than gracious. After a few days of buying biers and speaking with the staff, one of the female bartenders asked me to purchase her a drink. I of course agreed and bought two bottles of champagne which we shared. The retail cost of these bottles are about 50 franc but I was charged 400 franc. When asked to purchase another bottle, I declined as I clearly was being taken advantage of. The following day my banc notified me that I had accrued 3,300 franc in charges from this establishment. I went to the owner and asked for a copy of the receipts so I could dispute these fraudulent charges. He refused to provide receipts and claimed I purchased Dom Perignon the prior night, which I definitely did not. He then proceeded to kick me out of the bar. I returned the following day and again asked for receipts. This time I told him I was not leaving without them. He became agitated and again told me to leave. I had some choice words for him and he proceeded to follow me outside and take a swing at me. I easily dodged the punch and again told him to get me the receipts. He then grabbed a stick and tried hitting me in the head with it. I blocked the swing with my left arm and hand and although it hurt a little bit, it broke his stick in half and he scurried back inside.
Anyway, the short story is, do not go to this establishment. They are thieves and relatively professional at that. When it comes to service and bartending, they are...
Read moreThis is one of the worst places in Basel, if you are a foreigner. Had heard from colleagues of mine, but needed to check on my own.
Nobody speaks in English, but that's understandable. The big problem relies on the preconcept of the staff against foreigners.
I went there with 3 friends of mine, one of them being a woman. The waitress was so afraid we would not order one drink per person, that she did not ALLOW us to sit before ordering. One of us wanted to take only water (not tap water, a bottle of water of 6 euros) and she made a riot.
Of course we could not understand everything she screamed at us, but it was certainly bad.
We ordered the drinks and could not even enjoy so sad it made us.
When we went to pay she laughed at us when we asked how does it work with the tips. "If you dont have money you do not need to give", she said, in a very rude manner.
The drinks came and were horrible. The bathroom of this place was disgusting.
It is a pity, looks amazing from the outside and very well placed, but you are only welcome if you are a Swiss local.
Summing up, do not go there. You can get cheaper and better drinks from friendly staff in any of the bars...
Read moreI don't know how the food or drinks might be here, but my review is based on the waitress experience. Apparently, I came here early today, at around 10 AM, because I was searching desperately for a toilet and when I saw a women standing in front, I asked her if there is a toilet and she was looking at me kinda angry, but she told me that there is. And after I left the place, she said to me something rude in German, but couldn't figure it out what it said, since I don't speak German.
Avoid this place if you're a foreigner, the lady was very rude to me just because I had to use the toilet after searching 20 minutes for one and she was also not speaking English!! Maybe the place wasn't open yet, since it says that opens at 17, but I didn't knew this and I just wanted to go desperately to toilet and she could have been more...
