The hotel is located in such a way that it offers a beautiful view of the mountains. THE SETTLEMENT was successful. You can park your car free of charge next to the hotel. The young guy at the counter explained to us what to see nearby, gave us a discount card and helped carry our suitcases to the room. The room is spacious with a balcony and a beautiful view of the mountains. The bathroom is small, modest with a shower. Air conditioning, refrigerator, coffee machine no. It's a pity. The decoration of the hotel is simple but interesting. Breakfast for an additional 15 francs per person. Breakfast is minimal but worth the money. This is a restaurant hotel. And so we ordered dinner in advance. The table was located by the window overlooking the mountains. An elderly waiter brought us a menu in German, they didn’t have any other languages. He himself didn’t know English and explained to us in German what to choose and it didn’t matter to him that we didn’t understand him. It was hard for us to choose. For two with my wife, we ordered 2 beers, 1 salad, 1 wine soup, and chose the most expensive main course, hoping that we would definitely not be mistaken. cordon bleu sausages for 46 francs. Ice cream for dessert. We waited a long time for the salad to arrive. It was just a few lettuce leaves and 1 cherry tomato. It is not possible to make this portion smaller even for children and there is no dressing. After another 20 minutes, the soup was brought. Finely chopped vegetables in broth. The taste is interesting but the portion is small. After 30 minutes, the main course was served. Meat fried in breadcrumbs with cheese inside, garnished with chips and a few small pieces of carrots. The dish is not aesthetically decorated in any way, the chips, like in McDonald's, are simply scattered and there is a cutlet nearby. The cutlet was supposed to turn out crispy but it was soft, the cheese just spread inside the meat, this did not improve the taste. The dish is simply no for such money. Ice cream was brought late and not what I ordered. To sum up, I have never seen such service and such food. Is there a professional chef at all? We were in no hurry, but 3 simple dishes to wait 2 hours? The cooking quality is terrible! No respect for customers. Why not translate the menu into English? You accept tourists. I highly recommend not to dine in the hotel restaurant. You can have a beer on the outdoor terrace overlooking the mountains. All things considered, I give this hotel an...
Read moreEngelberg is a very popular destination for visitors from home and abroad. There are people who have been returning frequently for 5 to 25 years, and the town council has a system to honour these loyal tourists. The beautiful and peaceful surroundings and the proximity to Mount Titlis are two of the reasons for the attraction. ||In this heavenly location the Hotel-Restaurant Banklialp is one of the gems.||But sadly we found that appearances may be deceptive, or everyone is not equally fortunate. On our late arrival after a long, tiring day we were allotted a room which had several defects and shortcomings. Our Tour Director and Coach Driver along with a single lady guest from our group were accommodated in another hotel due to a shortage of rooms ( in addition to our large group another one had also arrived at about the same time ), but some of our group members were sent to sub-standard rooms. I was reminded of an episode in the novel "Hotel" by Arthur Hailey in which an elderly, non-complaining and adjusting type of guest was given one of the worst rooms, known among the staff as the 'Ha-ha' room. He was later shifted to a better room, and the same treatment was meted out to us --- the next day. We had to spend a rather uncomfortable night with little sleep; the night staff were not very helpful or empathetic to our plight. The room allotted the next day was better than the previous one, but still not at par with the ones in which the other members of our group could stay.||Breakfast was served in a quaint dining room. It was standard continental fare, adequate and of good quality.||Dinner was served in the same place, but for our group was arranged from an Indian...
Read moreThe hotel is located a 10-minute walk away from the train station. The train station is right in the city. The room was clean and quiet. You can leave the sign "Please clean the room" hanging on the door handle if you want the room to be cleaned and tidied up every day. My double room had a large terrace where smoking is allowed. It had a private bathroom and a large double bed. The restaurant exceeded expectations! It was beautifully arranged, with a wonderful view and professional waiters. You will enjoy some extraordinary specialties here! On different days, I ordered a salad with an amazing dressing, cordon bleu, and roasted duck with french fries. All the dishes were incredibly good. Additionally, they serve a very delicious homemade butter on the house. I also had a large mug of excellent beer and a very good dessert (vanilla ice cream). Smoking is not allowed in the restaurant/hotel. The only downside of the hotel was the Wi-Fi, which was quite weak. The entire staff was very professional and will provide you with all the details you need, from the cleaning lady to the waiters and the receptionist. A perfect score! The hotel is open 24/7, and in case you know you'll arrive late, you can take the room key with you or leave it at the reception from...
