Dear reader After Covid I’ve tried to begin to look into service cultures and how the pandemic has raised the awareness of customer service. And how this is delivered to the customer.
Currently I’m in Engleberg, Switzerland and just tried out an exciting menu at Bierlialp. The location is central, and the menu very good. The restaurant itself is laid out ok, but what disappoints the chefs great food creations, is the service.
It seems some restaurants feel they don’t need to ask the customer what they want, it’s our job to eventually flag down a passing waiter and reiterate what we need. Not sure I understand this concept.
That said, at Bierliap after I mentioned my frustrations a grappa was presented as a small token to say sorry. Which I’m sorry is not good enough.
Therefore I suggest, if you try this restaurant you really need to make sure you capture the waiters attention when you need something…. otherwise your additional requests are not going to arrive.
Please enjoy the food and be very mindful the folks are not coming to you, you need to raise your hand and “tell” them what you...

The place was packed, which gave the impression of a family style good food good price kind of restaurant. It was so loud and jammed we couldn’t even speak.
Attention was really meh, we barely got our drinks after the food. There was no attention dedicated to us, probably because there were so many people but still…
We ordered the big plate from the salad bar and it was just cold vegetables… nothing special. Then we took two Pizzas which were described excellent in the reviews and were no more than disappointing. A sad sloppy dough, sweet tomato sauce and the same cold vegetables from the salad bar on top. Cheese was clearly some industrial kind with no flavor, it tasted like lots of things except pizza.
Maybe others have had a different experience but the whole thing was just...
Read moreHappy to be back in Engelberg yearly for summer and winter holidays during the past 17yrs as we own a property in this beautiful Swiss paradise since my teenage children were born. Regrettable I was never comfortable stepping foot to this restaurant every year due to your abrupt and superior services towards coloured skin customer like me but the food no doubt is delicious and well presented. Service was double standard as compared to local Swiss or white sitting next to us. Do remember some of you Italians working in service industry to earn a living here are also once a foreigners it doesn't mean you could looked down on Asians dinning in your lovely restaurant. I dare to comment as I'm also from F&B industry living in Singapore who treats every customer with kindness be it any race, religion or ethnicity. I do hope racism will stop in order to make the days happier for all in...
