My wife and I stayed here in August 2023. I can sum up our experience with one word: Perfect!|The PROS:|1) Mobile app check-in/electronic key/check-out/the ability to contact the host|2) Liked the fact that the room could also be accessed with a punch-in code (in addition to the mobile key)|3) The room was immaculate and wonderfully constructed... ample windows and power sources... it also featured a small refrigerator. The beds were comfortable and made even more so with their comforters|4) The common kitchen area was by far the nicest one we have encountered and had everything one could possibly think of for food preparation, cooking, and eating… and we also had a dedicated, lockable refrigerator|5) The eating area itself was beautifully appointed and looked out on the lovely Engelberg mountainside|6) The eating area also featured 1 CHF coffee (on the honor system), tea, and lots of cookies and the "cake of the day"|7) The hotel also features a restaurant, and although we did not avail ourselves of it, judging by the number of people frequenting it, I suspect it was excellent (like everything else about the place)|8) There was a lovely lounge set aside specifically for adults and a large playroom set aside for children|9) The location of the hotel was absolutely spectacular. Within easy walking distance to two grocery stores (Migros and Coop) and it was a stones throw from the train station.|10) We easily walked to the Mt. Titlis gondola station, but there is also a public bus that runs 3-4 times per hour.|The CONS:|1) In the spirit of full disclosure, if there is one possible negative to cite it would be this: the bathroom shower is extremely tight and there is no tub. Neither bothered us in the least, but "large" individuals would not fare well with these accommodations. There may be other rooms that could accommodate large people, but ours would absolutely not have.|2)...

Read moreIt already 9pm and I arrived at the restaurant. A gentlemzen informs me the kitchen is about to close but he can accomondate with a few simple dish. I opt for the ghoulash, it is a local dish.
The restaurant had beautiful wood work panels pristine as if it was just put in yesterday for my pleasure. The white table cloths and guest already cozy in their cushioned seats, falling into the ambient and romance of the room, i could not help but fall in love already.
The waiter took my umberella and ask if i would want my thin wool jumper hung. "I am still cold" I said huging my wool and possum sweater. One minute later he brings a fluffy white hot water bottle for me to warm my hands. That's service with love.
He gave me a few sip of red to select my wine for my dinner. The surprise was when the starter soup, brioche fresh backed in house, butter and bread was spread out on my table. All in delicous little portions just for me. The Brioched was in the traditional clay pot, butters perfectly whiped, bread baked inhouse. hmmm I'm in seventh heaven. Every morsals was delicious.
Not long my ghoulash, with delicate chinese lettuce leaves only was blanched in a delicious stock, stewed apple half with a berry compot, Sauerkrout with chestnut on top and Ghoulash in a delicate wine gravy.
Everything blended scrumptiously and tenderly on the tips of my tongue.
Off course the complete meal was finished with a sweet banana cake in the perfect bite portion.
This is the reason why European people are slender. The culter of this degustation is life in heaven. You rarely can get this level of service in western countries.
Needless to say I can live here. Engelberg is heaven on earth. Thank you for my heavenly experience. Your labour of love is very appreciated.
May we meet...
