TL;DR: absolutely amazing food + service, and rather good value for money
We came to Gruyeres for its eponymous cheese, and frankly had quite a headache choosing where to stay and eat given the mixed review most places have got. We chose Auberge de la Halle halfly because of the excellent reviews it's had, and also because it's open till relatively late (we arrived in the late evening) -- it proved to be the right choice and this was easily the best meal throughout our trip in Switzerland.
We ordered the chalet soup, rosti with ham and egg, fondue moitié-moitié, pear and raspberry sorbet, and the meringue with berries and cream. Everything was lovely... The soup was creamy and flavourful without being too heavy. The rosti was crispy, rich and cheesy (and not too salty/greasy -- as it often is). The fondue was very fragrant with the white wine coming through very well and actually making the dish surprisingly light for what it is (cheese + potato + bread!). The meringue with berries and sorbet made for a delightful end to the meal -- although we admittedly enjoyed the savoury dises more.
We also want to give a shout out to the waiter and waitress -- we were two of the last customers that night and they remained very friendly, helpful and attentive. We never felt rushed, and all the suggestions the staff gave proved to be on point.
We honestly cannot recommend this place enough. It's an easy 5/5 across the board. If we ever have the chance to visit Gruyeres again, we'll be sure to...

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to have lunch, and since we haven't tried genuine Swiss raclette yet, a quick Google search led us to Auberge de la Halle.
They have an AYCE raclette, but everyone at the table would need to order this. I don't remember how much it was but I remember it not being worth it since raclette is so heavy, you won't be able to eat boatloads of it anyway. Plus they give you bread, potatoes, and pickles onions and gherkins. So we decided to just do a regular order of the raclette, and then get an entree to share. The raclette was AMAZING. They bring a machine to your table and give you a whole chunk of gruyere cheese. The machine has a tray that swivels, so you can decide how melted you want your cheese. Just be sure to eat it quick once you scrape it because the cheese cools off really quickly. The entree we ordered on the other hand was mediocre. We had the smoked ham and rösti and it just reminded me of cafeteria food for some reason. All of this was too much food, so you're better off just ordering one raclette and getting an appetizer or something.
Would definitely recommend Auberge de la Halle but again, just stick to the raclette! (I'm sure the fondue is equally...
