Nico's — Restaurant in Kandersteg

We were very happy that we chose Nico's for our dinner in Kandersteg. First of all, they were open until late, which cannot be said about any other places in the town. We really appreciated the kind staff, relaxed atmosphere, beautiful view through the window, and good house wine. It's very expensive, as most places in Switzerland, but here at least you have a chance of enjoying the meal as it's quite high quality. As a lovely surprise we received a wonderful soup apetizer with some bread and butter. Our main dishes were fish from Frutigen, which, sadly, was not very flavourful, but the meat dish (schweins-duett) from the 2-dish tasting menu was incredible, so I highly recommend going for that one! House wine was also perfect, the only thing that shocked us was the price for water (8.50) so probably best to stick to wine 😀

Very good and creative food, nicely served. You can create your own set of 2-5 meals from two suggested 5courses menu lists or order a la carte. The service is very friendly. Waiting time was a bit too long, we spent 3h eating 3 courses menu. But still had a great time :)

One suggestion: the size of the dish should be appropriate to the selected size of the menu. We had 3 course menu. As a first course I have selected the soup (which is the second on the main menu) and my boyfriend the first dish from those lists (which for 5courses menu is the first appetizer). Plus main dish and dessert. It turned out my soup is quite big (big enough ;) ) but the dish that my boyfriend got was much (incomparably) smaller. In 5 courses menu this is a first appetizer, however it should be bigger if you order this in 3...

Excellent restaurant in the heart of Kandersteg. It is open all day and we were taken in without a reservation. The traditional Swiss food was delicious - my wife had the wild boar sausage with rösti and I had a vegetarian rösti with fried eggs, both absolutely wonderful. And the service was really great, even though the lady didn't speak English, we still got our food and drinks and were able to pay without problems. Everyone is extremely helpful and pleasant. This is definitely a place to have a late lunch if you happen to be visiting Blausee, Kandersteg, or...
