Mediocre food. Aggressive staff (as if we did something wrong). The food took ages, the table beside us had to ask the staff whether we would get our food today. Asked for the bill and we’ve been waiting for more than half an hour already. Might as well walk out at this point. Simply ridiculous.
In summary, it’s faster to go up to oeschinensee for a day trip than eat at this place.
Edit:
After having read the reply from the restaurant, all I can say is we called to book ahead of time. I suppose there was a mix up on your end.
I understand that this is not a fast food restaurant and we did not expect to be served within 10-20 minutes. However, having to wait for a whole hour is simply unacceptable. Furthermore, it wasn’t just us, everyone had to wait for an hour or more for their food. There were multiple tables waiting, asking whether they would be able to eat today. (Un)surprisingly, some were Swiss (fairly sure the Swiss know their way around their own food culture).
You mentioned there being a storm but you failed to mention that we sat down 2 hours before the storm started and in that time a regular Swiss restaurant would’ve served us twice already. When the storm came, we asked to pay and we waited patiently. We did not hurry you because we understood that you had to pack thing up outside.
Thank you for teaching us about the Swiss food culture. Unfortunately, when even your Swiss customers complain about the waiting time for your food, I’m fairly sure it is indeed too long. We have eaten at other Swiss restaurants and were received hospitably (not to mention we only had to wait 20-30 minutes for our food).
I hope this review is helpful for others in deciding whether to spend your hard-earned money here or not. If you want to be treated like garbage then go ahead. In my humble opinion, this restaurant is the “karen” of...
Read moreWe got lectured: rude, condescending and borderline racism.
After our long day of hiking we wanted to stop for a well deserved hot beverage and so we did. The place is very cozy and well kept so we thought we were setting ourselves up for a delightful experience. Little did we know we were going to get told off like five year olds with sentences like “there are people starving in this world”, “you should know internet is not reality” or “we don’t throw food away in THIS country” among others… All this because we made the honest mistake (and we apologised for it) of ordering a hot chocolate that was milk with powder instead of melted chocolate with a dash of milk. We asked the waitress if there had been a mistake in the order but she told us that was the only hot chocolate they had so she offered to take them back and we ordered two new drinks instead. THEN came trouble… this other woman came to the table and started lecturing us about sending the chocolates back (remember the waitress offered to do so, we didn’t ask for it) being fairly rude and condescending. We could not believe what was happening; she was really telling us we lacked education although we were willing to pay for the beverages and she was the one escalating the problem. I tried to explain the confusion and apologise again but nothing worked and hd to leave the cafe. It honestly felt dangerously...
Read moreCame here for my birthday dinner and arrived too late for the kitchen to still be open. This was okay as we are just used to things being open later in the UK.
Came the next evening instead and had a really fantastic meal with similarly fantastic service. The atmosphere was great, with board games to play while waiting for your food (we played connect 4) and the 2 patron cats were wonderful. We are big cat fans and they are pretty popular amongst visitors to the restaurant.
I had a beer that was from Bern and also had the Vienna style Schnitzel which was fantastic. My girlfriend is vegetarian and she had plenty of options and really enjoyed her Asian Pan Tofu dish. The Apfelstrudel was a great way to finish dinner as well.
A big thank you to everyone at Schweizerhof for making my birthday evening really spectacular, even if it was...
