Restaurant «Vallarosa» — Restaurant in Laax

We came to this restaurant and asked if they were open — they said yes, but only for outdoor seating. That was fine, it was a beautiful and sunny day. However, I was seated directly under the sun, and it began to burn my face. I kindly asked our waiter, Alfredo, if he could open the sun blinds for some shade. He said he had to ask a table two tables away from us for permission first, which was odd.

Instead of explaining the situation — that I was visibly uncomfortable and baking in the sun — he simply asked them if he could lower the blind, with no context. He came back and said, “No, I can’t — they don’t want to.” Meanwhile, he never asked the table next to us, who also happened to be people of African descent like us, if they would mind. The way he handled it felt dismissive and, honestly, gave off profiling energy.

Overall, the service from Alfredo was rude and dismissive toward us from the start. We didn’t feel welcomed or respected. Hospitality should never feel selective. Really...

The service was good, The issue was the food.

The good:

Goat cheese starter was great 9/10

The surf and turf was great 8/10 (though I asked for no shrimp and I was served with shrimp).

Beetroot carpaccio 8/10

Hamburger was great 8/10

Beef filet 200 gram was good but the sides weren't great 7.5/10

Veal schnitzel was ok 6.5/10

Veal with mushroom sauce was ok 5/10

Cordon blu was not good 4/10

Risotto is not real Risotto. the rice used is not the proper Risotto rice it was regular rice, really not good taste, basically normal rice with creme sauce 2/10

Caccio e pepe, usually is a white pasta but it came red, overcooked pasta as well 2/10

Veggie burger was terrible, it wasn't even a burger consistency, it was mashed potatoes...

Dined here for lunch today. We walked in and the atmosphere seemed nice. We waited 5-10 minutes to be seated and eventually just sat at a table ourselves. We were disappointed by the limited menu and ordered the two pasta dishes. The food was extremely disappointing, it was cold, watery and tasteless. Best bit was the bread! Service was good but could have made better...
