Maha Lakshmi Indian Restaurant — Restaurant in Thun

Very underwhelming experience. We were very disappointed with the food. In fact, it was an insult to Indian food.

The shy, reserved waiter was quick to note our order. The starters (Pakora, Dahi Bada) probably tasted the "best" from everything we had on our plate.

The main menus were extremely bland. We ordered Chicken Biriyani and Aviyal Kerala Style. If you ever ate Aviyal or do a quick internet search, you know it's supposed to be a thick, spicy stew with lots of different veggies and has a slightly sour tang (so good!). The one I was served was everything but authentic, it had veggies, sure... but they didn't taste fresh. The texture was all wrong.. like a Thai curry or something.. but definitely not Indian. It was very creamy because of the cashew nuts they blended (authentic Aviyal doesn't have those!). So all in all, not only very bland but also heavy. The portions were too small for the prices they demand.

The bathroom stall was not clean and had a stench upon entering.

In sum, I cannot recommend...

We’ve been here Twice. Our first experience was fantastic, the food was amazing, the service was good. Later we spoke to the owner and found out that he himself cooked our food, and it was just delicious.

Our second visit, which we only made just because we loved our first visit. But this time it wasn’t as we expected, the food lacked taste, one of the dish felt like it was made in a hurry. The cook didn’t seem to know what he was doing, later we found that the cook was Bosnian. Referring him as cook and chef because the food was seriously not good.

May be the owner should replace him entirely. Just a thought 😅

One of the memorable evening of life, delicious Indian food with drinks of your choice. We had Dal tadka, bharta, chicken gravy, kadhai paneer , garlic naan and yummy mango lassi . It was house full with mix of Indian & European groups . Service was excellent , location nothing can be better than this - just 100 meters from Thun station , lake view , heart of the amazing city. Mr Balbir , the owner was so nice to talk & serve , made sure that each one of us had a best food experience . Would definitely recommend if any one is planning to visit Zürich to Grindelwald or jungfraujoch to see snow , just get down at Thun station and enjoy the treat. You will love...
