I used to like this place, I used to rate 4 stars.
Ok, food has never been great (it always been ok/zurich average but never great).
Ok, line has always be crazy and the conditions for reserving unreasonable (how can I know days in advance what I want to eat? Furthermore reservation is possible only for large/expensive meals, what if I am with a kid? What if I don’t want to tell person I am with where I want to bring them?)
But at least people used to be welcoming and the furniture/decor have always been great.
Nowadays the staff is just rude and arrogant. They implicitly (because they never apologise) blame the overcrowding but it’s just lack of empathy and hospitality.
For example (but, really, this is just an example in the last 4 years or so I always had an experience like this every time I went), last time I went I was the first in line at opening time. In front of me just a group with reservation. The guy insisted in speaking German even if clearly I couldn’t understand. I had to state explicitly “look we will not go far, I can’t understand, can you please speak English?”, ok he concedes me to speak English, he asks me if I have reservation, I say no, he rolls his eyes he checks the paper with reservations, he sigs (again, I was the first) he let me in and, despite the place was still empty he lets me sit in the worst table (in front of the counter) and he say that I have to leave in no more than 1h. He didn’t ask me if I would have preferred the high chairs (that do not look like reserved) and stay longer He wasn’t apologetic, he wasn’t welcoming.
The (quite average ) “large” cappuccino is now as big the average small cappuccino around Zurich
Nowadays the only thing I would still save is the furniture/structure but I don’t think the balance is in favour of this...
Read moreWent today with my brother and mother! Once i took the orders of my family, i went to stand in line! While ordering, and finally arriving to the last dish , the worker tells me that they dont have it as listed and would adjust by adding another sourdough slice instead of the “croissant”. Ofcourse i had to go back to my table and see if my mum was ok with it, which she wasnt so she chose another dish. Went back to order, there was a huge line infront me ! When it was my turn the worker had to type all of the order again! :( My mom ordered a quiche vegeterian, ofcourse ;) the worker there says she isnt sure if they still have it( what do you have then? 😅) but thankfully they did! Both orders arrived , and guess what? They brought my mom the wrong one with bacon! I was very disapointed at this point. Went to give it back, the waitress takes it , no appology whatsoever and says she will bring a vegeterian one. My brother had to eat alone since his order came first, and my mom as well. (That’s exactly why we go together to a restaurant, to eat alone😩) Again not even an appology! The waitress bringing the food was coughing all around and not cleaning her hands before touching the plates ( i was really disgusted)!
I love Babu’s but i wouldn’t chose this branch again! I was really surprised at the enorm difference between this branch and the branch next to the...
Read moreOur lunch reservation was for 12:30pm but since I got there early, I hopped into the line for reservations to get my table.
Note: There are 2 different lines and if you’re looking to get a takeaway, just head straight to the left line and place your order at the counter.
They have a decent sized indoor seating area as well but the weather was great so we opted to sit outside. There’s a QR code on a table which brings us to a drinks menu, however if you scroll down on the page, you’ll see an option that says “view in PDF”, that’s where the whole menu shows up.
Once we’re ready to order, we have to go to the counter inside to place our orders. They have a decent variety of brunch offerings and I opted for the Rösti with Scrambled Eggs & Bacon while my friends had the Rösti with Fried Eggs & Bacon and an Avocado Caesar Salad with Bacon and a side of Brioche.
Orders came in a timely fashion, however my friends’ salad came without the bacon & brioche and she had to request for it twice before the complete set arrived.
My rösti was good, crispy on the outside, however I found both the scrambled eggs and the bacon a little dry.
All in all, Babu’s is a lovely spot for a meal with a wide variety of options to...
