Our lunch reservation was for 12:30pm but since I got there early, I hopped into the line for reservations to get my table. Note: There are 2 different lines and if you’re looking to get a takeaway, just head straight to the left line and place your order at the counter. They have a decent sized indoor seating area as well but the weather was great so we opted to sit outside. There’s a QR code on a table which brings us to a drinks menu, however if you scroll down on the page, you’ll see an option that says “view in PDF”, that’s where the whole menu shows up. Once we’re ready to order, we have to go to the counter inside to place our orders. They have a decent variety of brunch offerings and I opted for the Rösti with Scrambled Eggs & Bacon while my friends had the Rösti with Fried Eggs & Bacon and an Avocado Caesar Salad with Bacon and a side of Brioche. Orders came in a timely fashion, however my friends’ salad came without the bacon & brioche and she had to request for it twice before the complete set arrived. My rösti was good, crispy on the outside, however I found both the scrambled eggs and the bacon a little dry. All in all, Babu’s is a lovely spot for a meal with a wide variety of options to choose from!

The bottom line - The total experience was good and I would go back. The atmosphere - I really enjoyed the vibe of the place, noisy but fun. It reminded me of back home in NY. The outside is covered by scaffolding but when you're inside It's unnoticeable. The staff - Some seem happy to be there and some seem miserable. But they were all helpful even when they looked like they hated everyone. The food - Visually everything looks amazing, the flavors were also good for the most part. *Nuss cookie/cake- I did not like. Tasted like dates and in the description there was no mention of dates. I HATE DATES. *Celery apple cucumber juice was delicious. *Bagel w eggs, cream cheese, bacon was also good. I wish they had everything bagel. VFM - I would say it's ok but could be better. Mostly for drinks or small snacks. The rest are pretty big portions so the price point is ok. Tip - It's possible to reserve tables. *Laptops are allowed (although I'm not sure about their policies in the matter. I was there on a weekday and had no problems using it). *I was told the focaccias are a must. Menu attached 25/09/24

This is the WORST café I’ve been to in Zurich and the most underwhelming food I’ve eaten in Switzerland. We made a reservation for the etagere which is a brunch set with extremely mediocre food and coffee that is not worth its hefty price tag of 88 CHF (including drinks) for two pax. I would like to feedback that the service is atrocious. Granted, they were really busy even though it was a weekday brunch but they made us feel really invisible. I stood at the cashier for a good 5-7 minutes and a few staff (who weren’t serving dishes or clearing plates) walked past and ignored me. I had to walk to another waiter who was standing around to get his attention to make payment. The waitress that served us also didn’t make us feel welcome and didn’t explain how the set menu works to us properly. We were not told that the two coffees were not part of the set menu, and as a result we got a bill shock. To conclude, I’m extremely disappointed with my experience at Babu and would definitely not return. I hope that others won’t have a horrible experience as we did. Maybe you can come without reservation and order ala carte for better food. But the etagere is 100% not worth it.

@babus_bakeryandcoffeehouse attracts a big crowd for breakfast. This was the slowest moving queue of the trip but we decided to wait it out. It was over half an hour to wait to get in as they had to wait to turn over the tables. I was a little annoyed as we had tried to book online and it said no breakfast reservations but then people skipped ahead of the queue as they seemed to have reservations. It would be good if it was the same instructions for everyone. You order at the counter and it’s served to your table. I had the eggs royal which is a Benedict with smoked salmon. They were incredibly generous with the serving of salmon, maybe too much. The hollandaise lacked flavour and didn’t really add much to the dish. The eggs were cooked perfectly and everything was very fresh. Ryan had a rösti with chesse and sausage and in my opinion made the winning choice. The coffee was good and the service was friendly. The cafe was full the entire time we were there and when we left the queue was even longer than when we joined. The breakfast was good and I would happily return.

One of my favorite brunch spots in Zürich. The café is centrally located with a cozy and vintage interior and a self-service concept for walk-ins (you order/pay at the counter and your food/drinks get served to you). They offer a mix of Breakfast Étagères and classic à la carte options (different platters, Egg dishes, pancakes, Rösti etc). My favorite ones so far were their Avocado Toast, their Eggs Florentine, the Vegetarian Étagère and their Blueberry Pancake with Maple Syrup). Make sure to leave some space for desert, because their cookies, brownies and cakes (eg carrot cakes) are divine! Be aware that if you don't have a reservation, the wait times around brunch peak hours (not only weekends) can be long and you order à la carte, however if you reserve a table, this comes with the preset Breakfast Étagère and table service (regular, vegetarian or vegan choice at CHF 35 per person).

I loved the atmosphere and interior here. People quietly talk and the brick walls and plants tempts you to stay longer and slow down, despite having a packed and busy schedule. They also offer many options for takeaway, mainly pastries and drinks. I’d love to come back with a book to sit and read while enjoying my morning meal. Their breakfast menu is quite diverse in their offerings, which is highly appreciated, from pancakes, to pastries, to açaí bowls and oatmeal. I ordered the Babu Basic Breakfast which includes a croissant and a roll, and a choice of Swiss cheese or seasonal fruit. My S.O. ordered the rösti, which is (as an American) a variation of hash browns, with eggs prepared sunny side up. Definitely come by if you’re looking for breakfast in Zurich! Various free postcards are available here, too, some photographed, and some illustrated.
