Burgermeister Kaserne ZÜRICH — Restaurant in Zurich

I had dinner at this Burgermeister on Sunday, and the waiter was not friendly and charged my card 2 times.

I was there with a friend, and we are both allergic to gluten. We asked the waiter to clarify if the gluten free burgers are cooked separately, to which she replied that "yes we have gluten free bread". So she could not grasp the concept of cross-contamination and clarify if gluten-containing burgers are prepared separately or together with other gluten-containing burgers. When we asked if the fries were also gluten free, she started to be really annoyed with us, and she just said "I don't know, we only have gluten free burgers". When we asked her to clarify it with the kitchen, she basically said no. It is great that Burgermeister has gluten free options, but please, make sure that your personnel are knowledgeable about gluten allergy, that some people can have problems even because of some tiny amounts of gluten, and be patient with addressing their concerns.

But this is not all. At the end of the evening, I paid with my card, but the waiter said that the payment was not properly registered in the system, and the receipt was not printed, whereas in the card terminal, I could see that the transaction was successful. Afterwards, she asked me to use my card one more time. I did it, and now I can see in my bank account that the amount was deducted 2 times! After I showed her my bank card twice in my ebank she said "ohhh we cannot do anything with it, come to us another time and we'll just give you a free burger". But I am not even sure that I would like to come to Burgermeister another time, and I would like at least to get my money back from the erroneous...

Let me start with the good: Burger and sweet potato fries were perfect. That's what we came for and that's why the review has 4* and not less. Now for the less favorable: Service: No smiles were shared today. Exception was a last man (probably a manager?) who resolved the issues with us - he was really good and friendly, exactly how everybody should have been. The coleslaw was a bad joke. Tasteless, the portion laughable (look at the photo). The portion was resolved after an inquiry if this is normal portion size. The coffee (latte macchiato) you see on the photo. Came extremely hot - like burn your mouth hot. In a glass that is not meant for coffee - you couldn't hold it without tissue wrapped around. And when it cooled down, the taste was... Not there. Tasted like dirty skimmed milk. Like you use half sachet of instant Nespresso in full glass of scorching hot milk. Foam? Non existent. We found this place after coming back starving from a day hiking. It was a great find! The staff was friendly and attentive and the venue is well decorated. If possible, try to get a booth, they are very comfortable and quite nice.

As for the food, the burgers were very tasty and are just the right size. The bread was fresh and they come with salad and tasty big cut fries.

The beverage selection was also quite diverse and guaranteed to have something for everyone. It had the choice of several ciders, something that is not very common and a sure way to get in...
