I’ve stayed in many hotels over the years, and for the price, this was one of the worst experiences I’ve had. My wife and I booked Ruby Mimi for our honeymoon, and from check-in onward, it was a disappointment.
Pros: Great location, pillows are very nice, and the bar staff was super friendly.
Cons: Upon arrival, instead of being welcomed and checked in by staff, we were directed to a self-service iPad kiosk bolted to a stand. We had to enter all of our details manually, which took longer than if the staff member had simply scanned our passports. What made it worse was the complete lack of acknowledgment that this was our honeymoon (something we noted when booking). Other hotels on our trip congratulated us, which was a small but meaningful gesture, here, there was nothing. Overall, service felt indifferent at best.
The housekeeping was just as poor. The hotel offers a drink voucher if you decline daily room service, which we didn’t opt for, but the service we did get barely counted. Our bed was remade, but the sheets and pillowcases were not changed, even when they were visibly dirty. Only after we stripped the bed ourselves and piled the linens on the floor did the staff finally replace them. Additionally, housekeeping ignored obvious used items like a bucket of melted ice and empty cups with limes in them, which we placed near the door to be cleared. They were simply left there.
For the price, the amenities are baffling. There’s no minibar, no phone to call reception, and no practical conveniences you’d expect from even a budget chain. Yet, strangely, the room came with a guitar amp, so you could rent a guitar from the front desk for a “private jam session.” Meanwhile, when our hallway and shower began smelling strongly of sewer gas one evening, there was no easy way to contact reception, you’re expected to go downstairs in person.
The room itself was uncomfortable. The AC barely cooled the space, and since the windows are locked, there was no way to let in fresh air. When we asked about the issue, we were told there was nothing they could do. On top of that, the atmosphere in the hallways and bathrooms was unpleasant due to the lingering sewer smell, especially on our last night.
In a city as well-run as Zurich, Ruby Mimi feels like the only exception. Poor service, weak housekeeping, inadequate amenities, and a lack of comfort made this a truly disappointing stay, especially for a honeymoon. There are far better options nearby that deliver real hospitality and value.
My recommendation… Stay away...
Read moreWe have stayed at the Ruby Mimi three times in the last two years due to the hotel not allowing pets. Two of the three times were truly awful. Beware, the staff and manager are well practiced at lying with a smile. The room the hotel shows online is not guaranteed so they can at random change where you are going to stay. The first visit: the person at the desk said we were getting a special room at the end of the hall. The room was a between 85 and 90 degrees F in temperature, the windows were sealed shut and the air conditioner did not work. I complained and on our second visit we received a room where the windows opened on the backside of the hotel. Great room. I was told to purchase a loft room so we would be able to get a similar room in the future. So on our next visit, we purchase a loft room and pay $536.21 US dollars for our stay in early September 2025. I mentioned in the online notes when making the reservation, we would like a room similar to the room we stayed in the year before that was on the backside of the hotel. Upon arrival, I ask the person at the desk for the hotel map since our room did not seem to be on the correct floor. The clerk said we had a loft room with a balcony. We go up to the warm room that is on the noisy street corner with no balcony, no closet, no counter space and has wood beams above and on each side of the bed. Of course, difficult to get out of bed. I complain and am told there are no other rooms and our room is called a loft room because of it's larger square footage. I speak to the manager who has the hello sunshine smile and is incapable of acting and giving a discount on the room. He passes the buck and says he will check with the owner and get back to me about discounting the room. Of course, I get a reply on my phone, no discount. The Ruby Mimi Hotel has a deceptive and dishonest marketing strategy. By far, the worst place we have stayed in Europe over the past couple years. At every other hotel, we stayed in a room which matched the picture...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a place to unwind in style, the Ruby Mimi Hotel Bar is an absolute must. The atmosphere is nothing short of enchanting: dim lighting casts a warm glow over the elegant interior, while soft, relaxing music hums gently in the background. It’s a sanctuary of calm in the middle of the city, perfect for deep conversations, quiet reflection, or simply soaking in the mood.
What truly made the evening unforgettable, however, was the Smoke and Ember cocktail, a fiery yet smooth creation that perfectly captures the bar’s unique flair. This drink is more than a cocktail; it’s an experience.
Nelly, the mind behind this masterpiece, isn’t just a mixologist, she’s a storyteller. Her passion(fruit) shines through in every sip of Smoke and Ember, which balances heat and flavor in a way that feels both daring and comforting. Listening to her speak about the inspiration behind the drink, stories of warmth, spark, and Emotion, made the experience all the more intimate and memorable. It’s rare to meet someone who pours so much of herself into her craft.
And then there’s Lena, the attractive and incredibly meticulous bartender whose presentation of the drink was pure elegance. Every movement, from the pour to the final garnish, was done with precision and grace, turning the preparation into a performance in itself. The visual beauty of the drink mirrored its complex and captivating taste, especially due to the fine fibers of chilli topping the glasses surface.
All in all, the Ruby Mimi Hotel Bar is more than just a stylish location, it’s a place where atmosphere, personality, and artistry meet. Whether you’re a cocktail connoisseur or just someone in search of a cozy, refined night out, this bar, and especially Nelly and Lena,...
