da PONE is said to be the best Pizzeria in Switzerland, so, we were wondering and had high expectations...
The ambience is versy nice. You'll sit right above the Limmat, in a nice and open room, with a lot of corners, so that the many people sitting inside will not feel as many as they are.
The service is very nice. Right from the entrance, you'll feel welcome. Further, you don't really feel like you're in Zurich anymore, much more like you're in Naples.
The selection of Pizzas is smaller, compared to other locations, but of high quality. Also, there are a lot of vegetarian, and some veegan options. So, me and my girlfriend ordered the same, first, Burrata and cherry tomatoes to share, then, Pizza Siciliana with fried eggplants and a special kind of Ricotta on top. Delicious. The dough was very flavourful, cruncha on the outside, soft and tender and light on the inside. Not just dough, but art. The topping was a bit on the salty side for me, my girlfriend confirmed, but liked it the way it was - to sopecify, it was not too much, but on the salty side. But what was very great, you could taste each and every ingredient separately. This is what, for me, or us, a great Pizza is all about. Not overloaded, but finely selected to create a harmony on the plate.
Only downside, comparingly, the prices are a bit high.
Best Pizza in Switzerland? I don't know, but surely we were not...
Read moreAbsolutely magnificent pizzas! Especially their dough, was probably one of the best I’ve ever had in my life! As a home chef, I occasionally bake my own pizzas but this does not match the perfection how the pizzailos make them here! My recommendation is the siciliana with fried aubergines! Apart the from the food, now that it’s Christmas season the rather simplistic interior does get some shine through their lights they hang up at the ceilings. Plus points for that!
What was interesting to see was that even though I came in rather early and was alone with no reservation, they did not seat me near the window to enjoy the lake view (although nearly all seats were unoccupied and not booked). Instead they kept these for couples that came in after me. Might be an advantage or disadvantage depending on how you see it. Not necessarily something that bothered me because I understood, but would have definitely been more pleasant sitting at the window.
However, what is an undisputed critique point for me was the noise. It was quite loud, coming from every angel and that may be a bit of distraction for one or another. You can hear this in the video as well. Acoustic panels or rugs would definitely help with this. Other than that, I really enjoyed the food and cannot wait to come back (especially during Summer when the terrace is...
Read morePizzeria Da Pone: A Strong Contender in Zurich's Pizza Scene Pizzeria Da Pone was a welcome stop on my quest to find the best Neapolitan pizza in Zurich! Booking online was a breeze, and the staff greeted me warmly upon arrival.
I opted for the classic Pizza Napoli as my benchmark. The quality of the ingredients shone through - fresh and flavorful. However, the distribution could have been a touch more even. A slightly lighter hand with the tomato sauce and a more generous scattering of anchovies, olives, and capers would have elevated the pizza to new heights.
For dessert, the babà held some promise but fell a bit short. A more consistent rum soak throughout the pastry would have made it truly delightful.
While Da Pone didn't quite claim the top spot on my list, it's definitely a strong contender. The friendly service, high-quality ingredients, and overall delicious pizza make it a place I'd happily return to. For Neapolitan pizza aficionados, it's worth a visit to see if it might be your perfect slice of Zurich!
