This was my first and certainly my last experience with this place. Tonight, I had a pre-booked dinner with my colleagues and our boss.

I ordered the beef tartare, unaware that it was served raw. When I saw the raw meat, I politely asked to change my order.

However, the waiter was incredibly rude; he started lecturing me in front of everyone about how tartare is "served raw internationally." We all had to sit and listen. Then he went on to explain how much work goes into preparing beef tartare.

Finally, I said, "No problem, it can stay," to quiet him. He looked very young, so I decided to attribute his arrogance to his inexperience and didn't want to disrupt the nice atmosphere of the dinner with my colleagues.

After he finished his "lecture," the waiter finally offered to change the dish. I quickly confirmed that "the ravioli on the menu was actually pasta" and placed my order.

The bottom line for restaurant management is this: Your customer may be the most clueless person in the world, but they don't have to eat the food you bring them. Here's the "international knowledge" you should really stand behind. Just politely apologize, hand over the menu, and offer to order something else.

In my culture, tartare also refers to vegetable-based dishes; "raw meat" isn't used in every cuisine.

Also, since your menu is only a small A5 sheet, you can add "raw" to the small description section below the dish.

I read the other comments before writing this—there have been complaints about your service staff for years. I hope you take some steps to improve this for your own good.

I wanted to celebrate my cozy wedding with my husband and two witnesses. I booked a table for four people and asked for the celebration time at 8 pm. The hostess suggested me table at 7:30 pm and I agreed. On the day of the celebration, the restaurant employee called me at 6:30 pm. He asked why I did not come at the restaurant at 6 pm (booking time in his computer). He also mentioned that they actually fine people 15 or 50 (I don’t remember 100%) CHF if someone doesn't came to the restaurant. I guess that the employee who made a reservation misunderstood smth or made a mistake because of the confusion with the holidays schedule. My wedding celebration was spoiled due to someone else's mistake, I booked completely different time, threatened with a fine, and I could not celebrate my wedding. We went to gartenhof as we were looking for a place to eat a « wild » season menu, and it was the best experience we could have had. We ordered the special reh rücken, it came flambéed next to us and was super tasty, could taste notes of rosemary. The sides were super generous and some of the best spätzlis I’ve had in a long time, best touch is that you get it to share in two servings, so you really take the time to enjoy your food! The staff was very welcoming and kind and the atmosphere was super chill and relaxed inside the restaurant. A massive plus for the branding and the interior design of the restaurant, whoever is in charge of that has got a great eye 🤓 we will be back for sure!

This is only a partial review, since we arrived too late and the kitchen was closed (spontaneous decision to eat out, but late on a Sunday) - however they happily found us a table and served drinks and deserts. There was an excellent cheese plate, a rich and (large) chocolate lava cake and other small items. They also had a few nice beers on the menu. We sat outside in a nice warm evening - the garden was nice, tables spaced far enough apart and of a good size. I'd be delighted to return another time

Wir wussten genau, was wir wollten, denn wir waren für den Rehrücken gekommen und bestellten daher sofort. Der Filet wurde direkt am Tisch flambiert und tranchiert, was eine schöne Highlight war. Die Beilagen wurden auf einem separaten, grossen Teller serviert, sodass wir uns selbst bedienen konnten. Der zweite Teil des Rehrückens, das Entrecôte, kam als zweiter Gang, ebenfalls tranchiert, jedoch diesmal bereits mit Beilagen auf dem Teller – obwohl wir vom ersten Gang noch reichlich Beilagen übrig hatten. Das Fleisch hat mir gut geschmeckt, allerdings war die Portion eher knapp bemessen; in anderen Zürcher Restaurants habe ich bei vergleichbaren Gerichten schon grössere Portionen erhalten. Die Beilagen waren durchwegs in Ordnung, bis auf das Rotkraut, das leider zu trocken war. Auch die erste separat servierte Sauce war enttäuschend, da sie wenig Geschmack hatte. Der Service war stets freundlich, doch wir wurden nach dem zweiten Gang ziemlich vernachlässigt. Die leeren Teller standen über 20 Minuten vor uns, obwohl mehrere Kellner an uns vorbeigingen. Zum Abschluss bestellten ich das Maracuja-Sorbet mit Limoncello – das kann ich jedem nur empfehlen. Insgesamt war es ein durchwachsenes Abendessen, und ich denke, ich werde eher nicht wiederkommen.
