I am Korean, here back and forth between Korea since 2020 and I can’t see this restaurant maybe make bad reputation of Korea. I would say this is not authentic korean bbq as they are saying and not running by korean, no bbq at all like in Korea. They sell only korean street food menu during their soft open which should be perfectly ready to welcome people but sorry it is not ready at all.Their kimchi is too old and not fresh to be served. We ordered Kimchi fried rice, tteokbokki and fried chicken. Kimchi fried rice had unevenly chopped kimchi, and with mozzarella cheese which is not authentic at all. We said to chef why cheese is hidden inside rice? And he said he has been to korea and he has been to many korean restaurants. Haha that was answes to korean customer after we gave feedback. This is not normal. And Tteokbokki? Sauce of Tteokbboki is not what it is. It’s just copied with sriracha maybe? Just color looks like red-ish? Honestly you can go korean market in Zurich and get instant Tteokbokki. That taste much better. And finally fried chicken? That’s not korean fried chicken. It’s just taste like buffalo wings at the pub in the states. And all of it waiting time was over 30min. Probably chef is not really knowing what is korean food that Koreans are very efficient with time and service is most important then taste. And for this quality and this price? I just laughed. Korean food is trendy but you can’t just open the the restaurant and selling non like korean...
Read moreWhen Korean BBQ Meets Swiss Cleanliness: A Tragic Love Story of Backing Paper
Zurich, land of precision, cleanliness, and now… BBQ wrapped in baking paper. Yes, the ancient art of Korean grilling has been lovingly duct-taped to Swiss domestic values, resulting in a BBQ experience so hygienic it might qualify as a surgical procedure.
The meat? Top notch. If cows wrote wills, this is where they’d want to end up. Portions? As Swiss as fondue forks – dainty, disciplined, and not a gram over. Prices? You’ll feel like you bought shares in the cow. Staff? Excellent – polite, helpful, and totally unfazed when we asked, “Is this a grill or an origami workshop?” Cooking experience? Started with frustration, ended with redemption: we were granted permission to remove the paper. At last, meat touched metal, and the flavor gods wept.
One star lost for a crime against Korean cuisine: they were out of kimchi pancakes. Not strictly BBQ, but emotionally essential. Consider introducing a pancake reservation system to avoid further heartbreak.
Look, we respect innovation. But wrapping a grill in baking paper is like racing a Ferrari in slippers. Sure, cleanup is easy – but at what cost? That glorious sear, that smoky edge, that primal joy of watching fat hit fire and flare up like your ex’s temper.
Would I return? Absolutely. Would I bring my own grill grate? Possibly. Would I ever trust the Swiss to run a Korean BBQ unsupervised...
Read moreI recently dined at Haru Korean BBQ with my boyfriend, and while the food was genuinely delicious, the service was beyond disappointing.
From the start, it took way too long for someone to take our order, and we weren’t even offered drinks while deciding on our food. When our dishes finally arrived, we asked for extra salad, but it never came. The worst part? The staff seemed entirely focused on cleaning tables from guests who had already left rather than attending to those still dining.
Our empty plates sat on the table until we physically got up to leave. No one came to check if we were enjoying our meal, if we had finished (which was quite obvious), or if we wanted to order dessert. In fact, we had intended to get dessert and ordered it but ended up leaving without it because it was taking too long.
As for the food, while the quality was great, the portions were shockingly small—not just small for the price, but small, period. Definitely not enough for two people, and I seriously doubt the meat portion was actually 150g as stated on the menu.
Overall, Haru Korean BBQ has great food, but the terrible service made the experience frustrating. When staff prioritize cleaning over actively taking care of their guests, it really affects the atmosphere. A little more attentiveness would go a long way in making this place worth...
