The store says the packaging costs 2 chf per person to pay when you collect your meal for ToogoodTooGo (food app for rescuing food that’s about to be thrown).
We had ample methods of payment by cards as we are tourists. The owner and staff basically told us that we need cash because he doesn’t accept card for less than 15 chf.
When we said maybe we could sit there and use a plate, which we could obviously give back. He laughed in our faces and told us we would have to pay minimum 50chf if we wanted to sit inside.
We didn’t want to sit inside, we wanted to sit outside by the lovely river with a takeaway.
He refused to give us our food until we paid cash (the food was already paid for), despite the fact that we had paid for our food(just the 2chf packaging we only had card to pay with).
He embarrassed us in front of a whole restaurant and made us feel like we were peasants for using the service to get cheaper food ( that was going to be thrown away). I don’t appreciate this and I really am not happy with my money going to these people. The food was very mediocre and everything was vegetarian, normally Resturants say that on there bio. Nothing was BBQ which is surprising as it’s a “bbq restaurant”
I understand it’s a surprise, but at the least I don’t expect to be looked down on and treated so disrespectfully in a restaurant, especially whilst I’m on holiday.
We had means to pay. It wasn’t stated that it needed to be cash. We were lucky that a table nearby felt sorry for us and exchanged some pounds for Swiss franc.
I’m appalled and I want my money back or at least some kind of gesture to make up for this...
Read moreRating (3 star) is for food taste only. The owner was very kind and gives personal attention and came to speak with us and inform us about the upcoming events. The service was great with very nice and attentive servers. The ambience is great. Now for the food. We ordered the chicken tikka masala, Navrattan Korma and Veg Biryani, and some breads like garlic naan, butter naan and pudina paratha. In terms of food taste, I would rate it average. Even after mentioning that we would like India medium spicy (so its not bland or catered to more of a swiss palette), the chicken tikka lacked the punch and flavor which it should have. The Navrattan Korma was too creamy. The main dishes which we ordered were not great. Veg Biryani was good and all breads were excellent (hot, crisp and flavorful). Just for the food, I wouldn’t go here again unless the...
Read moreWe wanted to go there for very long but never stopped by until this week (and we have been there twice!) From the outside it is not a typical restaurant in Zurich but it is also what makes it authentic.
When you enter, you the host smiles immediately which makes you feel at home (something that does not happen often in zurich). They kept the interior of the old Grüntal but we sat both times outside in the nice terrace.
We ordered their special plate with grilled meat the first time and it was amazing. The bread was so good that we asked for 2x more and the wine is good and at a good price. I was surprised to see such a good wine selection for an indian place. Second time we tried some a la carte dishes.
Very good prices, food and service for zurich standards! I...
