Good coffee and pastries We came to Miró on a Sunday, early in the morning as we read no reservations were possible. We were pleased to see that even later (around 10.30), the place was fuller but never too crowded. A gem close to Langstrasse. Coffees are definitely their speciality (as they brew theirs) and it wasn’t too acidic. Really good latte art as well. I personally was very pleased with the cardamom bun from white bakery (strong taste but not too invasive), and the granola with pear confi (nice to see that they have other variations other than raspberry - as I am allergic). The price/quality for this one was excellent: a big, fulfilling bowl for less than 10 chf. My bf had a ham and cheese croissant, it came warm and it was good. If it had been Serrano ham, it would have been even better. He then wanted the tortilla (that’s the actual reason we came), and he was told at first that he would have to wait. After a good hour, we were told by a waitress that it wouldn’t have arrived. Still, we received a banana bread from the house as apology. He then went for the avo/egg bread, which was our least fav from the menu. Very expensive (for that price and a few francs more, one can get a bagel with the whole garnish). The guacamole was bland, and the egg had a strange consistency. However it was okay, still fulfilling. We had to wait a bit to receive our orders, however the service was very nice. And we’ll be back to work and have a coffee as the atmosphere was really good!

Miro is among the top three coffee houses in Zurich (the others being MAME and Stoll). For the past few months, I've been visiting this place to work and enjoy their espresso. They also have a convenient stall in HB if you are trying to catch a train. It goes without saying that Miro roasts their own beans. If you visit the cafe, you can often see their process through the full-height glass window into the rosterie. They use a Probat P05 that is computer controlled for consistency. They offer a staple Boa Vista espresso from Brazil, chocolat, nutty, sometimes grapefruit. They also rotate a special espresso, for example Vinhal from Brazil had notes of lime when I tasted it. There are also 2 filter coffees (which I have never tried). They are the only place in Zurich (as far as I have found) that offers a Gesha, their La Pradera from Colombia. The backwall has other great south american and ethiopian coffees that are offered at quite reasonable prices for their high quality (e.g, starting at ~11CHF/250g). Overall, this is a serious place for coffee but also a great place to eat or work. The staff is knowledgeable and very nice. The space is delightful.

First time in this coffee shop. I want come back and won’t recommended it. This place has a weird rule! No laptops on weekends. I was looking for a coffee shop in Google to come precisely to study with a laptop on Saturday afternoon. I ordered a coffee and when I set on the table I saw this on the table “Weekend is brunch time, no laptops”. Well, I’ve already ordered a coffee! If I knew I couldn’t study here on Saturday with a laptop, I would have left! I talked to a waitress and she was so firm, “no exceptions it’s written on the entrance”. But I entered through the terrace door where there was not any sign “no laptops!” I asked another waitress and she also said no and the reason is “people with laptop are staying for a long time and if someone wants to have a brunch, there might be no free table for this person”. I attached the pics that confirm I wouldn’t take someone’s brunch table, because there was a few people and a lot of free tables. That’s a pity people working there is so rigid and you feel not welcomed in this place. Huge disappointment! A first coffee shop in my life (and I really traveled a lot) where I found this really weird rule.

Never. Again. My patience with them is over. The customer service is atrocious. It used to be my first go-to place since my very first times I've been coming to Switzerland 2 years ago, even before I moved to live in Solothurn. There's always been a problem with them: so stiff and unrelenting. Like good German children told what to do and what not to. By. The. Effi g. Book. No imagination, no room for accommodation. Never could have had a hand brew there. Due to my work I used to come only on weekends and even if it were pretty empty and I told them I couldn't make it during the week they still wouldn't make a hand brew. Fine. I could live with that. Last night (Saturday) my train arrived 17:15 and it's a 15 min walk. So I told my friends: this is this great café in Zürich and let's go there before we go anywhere else. First go-to place, right? 17:35, 25 min before close and I plead them can we sit down because I just arrived so late and couldn't make it any earlier? No, paper take away cups and f.. off. Eventually we sat down and they didn't bother us, but I still had to drink my batch brew from a paper cup. Not nice. Today morn, walking 20 min to go there for a better experience. One table free, at the door with simple chairs, so we say we sit outside. But my friend is a wee bit cold, so on the way to the backyard I spot a free table with chairs with back rest. More comfortable, let's sit there. Half a minute, a girl comes and says: you can't sit here, it's a table for 4. I say: yes, be it as it may. We're two. It's the only free table inside with chairs with back rests and my friend's cold so we're not gonna sit outside. OK, but you still can't sit here.

Yeah, that was it. Sorry for this long rant, but I've been left so eff ng disappointed with a place I used to like so much. Fire all your stiff staff bar the Polish girl and the nice guy who gave me a take away cup last night, and then I'll be back. Otherwise, like I used to say to everyone: when in Zürich go to Miró café, now I will keep sayaing everyone don't...

Totally overrated. You can find similar good quality coffee in any other cafe around Wiedikon. Food is mediocre.

They have a huge queue in the weekends, they take your name on the list, and never use it again. All this looks theatrical and unnecessary. I won’t go to a place again where I get more annoyed than happy.

———-

Addendum after the cafe’s reply:

I am surprised by the style of Miro Cafe’s reply to my review. They start with straw man arguments to devalue my comment (“wild guesses”, as they say, about me and my visit) and finish with patronizing suggestions/ wishes for me. I find it aggressive and disrespectful.

In addition, of course, I am not a professional food critic/ reviewer. I share my personal opinion based on my experience like most of the users in Google Maps.

Still, I appreciate their point on sharing more detailed review so that they can improve. Additional points that they asked: Staff: slow service, defensive and arrogant also based on their reply to my review Interior design: can’t comment on the design but tables are too close to each other Music: don’t remember if there was music, all I can remember is the noise from the crowd in the cafe, which is fine. Location: so so, a bit remote side of Langstrasse Guests: it is not up to me to comment about people, I prefer to focus on the cafe’s properties Queue: working based on reservation might help, like most of the brunch places Cleanliness: the toilet was not clean (only one unisex toilet for a huge crowd might be the reason not to be able to keep it clean)

All in all, the annoyance of my visit continues also due to the way that they handle my review. With this and the additional criteria based on their questions, my rating would actually be lower...

Nice and polished café tucked away in an up-and-coming neighborhood on a quiet street just off Langstrasse. Coffee and was above average, foam was slightly unassuming. Serving a latte in a transparent, long drink glass is slightly passé and should be frowned upon these days. Friendly service. I appreciated the complimentary sparkling water. Only shadow cast on an otherwise pleasurable visit was an arrogant waitress with a superior attitude who demanded that I close my laptop. She turned slightly sarcastic toward me when she asked rhetorically "You really didn't see the sign?" which felt intrusive and highly inappropriate from someone I literally just met. I understand that they have a "house rule" not to allow laptops on weekends but A.) they could have hinted at that while taking my order (it was already open) and B.) I was sitting at a table outside by myself in a 12 C hazy day. Nobody could care less. There are thousands of ways to say things. Choosing to do so in discriminatory way and turning me into an example in front of other customers is as diminishing as it is improper. My expectation when paying 7.– for a latte and offering a tip when I was prompted to give one is to be entitled to superior service and not to be lectured about the "miro" way of spending a Saturday with a coffee. I refused to comply and carried on. Zurich has a long tradition of tolerance for all and coming up with arbitrary rules such as this one harms that spirit. Failing to walk the talk after making a splash should also be...
