Read moreI went to this place with two other people, we ordered drinks and nachos as starter, and on this moment the waitress asked if we knew what burgers we wanted. We said we would order later. Then 5 minutes later the same waitress asked if we had decided the burgers, and again we said we would order them later. Another person brought our starter and asked if we were going to order only the starter or if we were going to order burgers. On this moment, we didn’t even have the first bite of our starter. Already feeling uncomfortable, we said, “we will have the starter first”. The same person then immediately said they were very busy, other people wanted tables (I could see 3 other tables free) and suggested that we should order burgers. This person made it very clear we didn’t have a reservation, and we were “very lucky to get a table” that’s why we should order burgers. Well, we were planing too, but since they were pushing us so hard, before we even begin eating our starter, and made it an “obligation”, we gave up. I’ve never experienced something like this before. No matter how simple or fancy the restaurant was, nobody ever approached me suggesting I should order this or that to deserve a table. What if we didn’t like the place? What if we just wanted to eat starters the whole night, or what if we just wanted to have a starter first and then order the main dishes? They were not interested in us as clients, they basically just wanted to know how much we were planning to spend. Until the end, they were trying to convince us they were right. All together, I think we stayed around 30 min there. I will never come back to this place again. We didn’t feel welcomed and comfortable, we were actually planning to order burgers (we said it three time) more drinks etc., but when they suggested we “had to”, we completely lost the appetite, we paid the...
Read moreGiven the considerable hype on their website and Instagram page, The Bite’s brunch offerings fall significantly short of expectations, especially considering the price point.
The Hungry Man’s Breakfast is particularly underwhelming. The toast provided is thin and insubstantial, resembling supermarket bread from Coop or Migros, while the breakfast sausage appears to be a low-quality bratwurst, simply cut in half (not a breakfast sausage). And tomatoes, don’t ask. At CHF 30, this is far from value for money.
The Avocado Toast is equally disappointing. Served on a flimsy slice of Zopf, it doesn’t bears little resemblance to the appealing images showcased on their social media. Priced at CHF 30 for a single fried egg, it pales in comparison to the high-quality 2 poached eggs served at establishments like Babu’s or Bohemia - roughly the same price.
Adding to the disappointment, we were charged CHF 12 for four glasses of tap water, which feels excessive and unjustified.
However, The Bite does excel in certain areas. Their burgers are consistently high-quality and offer good value for money. If you are considering dining here, I would recommend sticking to their burger menu, where they clearly play to their strengths. Unless significant improvements are made to their brunch offerings, it is not an experience I would readily suggest.
For a total bill of CHF 160 for four people, one cannot help but compare the experience at The Breakfast Club in London or Lou’s, where both quality and value would far surpass what was offered here. That said, The Bite maintains a great atmosphere, with excellent music and...
