Restaurant Neue Real — Restaurant in Zurich

As someone who’s clearly lost in a place like the Neue Real (why 'Neue Real' and not 'Nuevo Real'? Cultural confusion at its finest), let me break it down:

The atmosphere is 'Spotify Spanish Restaurant' playlist, completed with the symphony of cis men screaming under the influence of alcohol. Kudos for the live music, but they went ahead and massacred Latin classics, so maybe no kudos after all...

The wine selection is good, but the staff practically shoves the whole bottle down your throat. Pair that with the relentless push for overconsumption at every turn, and you feel less like a guest and more like a walking wallet. Speaking of overpaying, let’s talk food: over 50 CHF for chuletas with no sides is an interesting take. The quality is not meeting the price: Slightly undercooked, somehow dry at the same time and so tendony it felt like chewing a rubber band.

There’s not much amazing about this place. If this is supposed to represent Spanish cuisine, it’s doing more harm than good and insults my Spanish roots. Save your...

Wer sich etwas Besonderes verdient hat... oder wem gehobene Gastronomie der Spitzenklasse mag wird sicher nicht enttäuscht! Für Sparfüchse und Rappenspalter ist das Real eher nicht gedacht. Das Essen ist den etwas höheren Preis absolut wert. Wir haben Cordon-Bleu gewählt. Das mag nun etwas alltäglich wirken, ist es aber eben nicht! Mein Gast hat eigentlich, geprägt durch die Fett triefenden, oft harten Dinger eher weniger Lust gehabt darauf... ...doch! Weit gefehlt! Was uns serviert wurde, war die klassische Variante! In exemplarischer Bestform! SO, genau SO soll die Spezialität zubereitet werden!!! Zartes Kalbfleisch, saftig, der Schinken und der Käse in perfekter Menge/Dicke, dezent gewürzt, nicht mit dem häufig etwas scharfen Geschmack, die Panade in Perfektion, Blasen werfend, wie bei einem Wiener Schnitzel... Eine schöne Portion für den stabilen Hunger. Die Welt, wie sie sein soll. Die Qualität des Service dazu... wie schön, dass es das noch gibt!
