Walter Buchmann Café «zum Walter» — Restaurant in Zurich

I came here the day I flew in to Zurich from the US on September 16th, as I was on my way to the AirBnb apartment I was staying at.

The hot chocolate was delicious, and I absolutely loved the decor of the dining room; but this review mainly goes out to the staff.

To the taller black lady who took my order and served me my drink: thank you for being patient with me in regard to my very limited German.

I was also unable to connect to the internet after just getting there and that was very distressing for me as I was not able to login to AirBnb to follow the instructions the owner gave me to access the apartment. Out of sheer desperation, I came back to the place and asked a white man working there with glasses if I could access their Wi-Fi; he told me there was no Wi-Fi at this cafe but directed me to another cafe across the street that did. Now at Buchmann, it feels like playing Buchmann Roulette. Apart from staff who are visibly stressed, disorganised, and borderline rude (especially during lunch breaks), the quality of the goods has become questionable.

We ordered a cake because it looked appealing. Unfortunately, the taste was off, the texture grainy and dry. In short inedible. When I raised a polite comment, the response was essentially that perhaps my taste preferences were the issue. Since we were two people sharing the same cake, I suppose both of us were "lost".

Maybe worth stopping by for just a coffee, but for anything more, there are plenty of other places in Zurich where the concept of empathy, and quality, are...

A cute cafe on the corner. They have fresh bread and pastries that are very delicious. The deserts aren't super sweet like what we are use to in the United states, but quite delicious and moist. The coffee was brewed fresh. They have many options, sandwiches included. They also had a great selection of pre made drinks and sodas. We tried a swiss made raspberry lemonade. Again. It wasn't overwhelmingly sweet, but it wasn't too tart either. A good balance. It was nice to just sit and have a pastry and a drink and write out our postcards. We highly recommend this cafe. They speak English which is helpful...
