Update July 2025 I really don't understand the lack of consistency with this place. The last time I came here in May, the tacos were flavorless and the horchata was watered down. I thought it must have been an off day. Well, it wasn't. We came back again, hoping for the best, but the tacos are not worth it and the horchata continues to be disappointing and watered down. Update January 2025 Cochinita pibil is back on the menu. The Birria tastes great. They have 3 hot sauces that are delightfully flavorful with varying degrees of spiciness and the horchata, which was always excellent, continues to be so and now it seems like it's a bigger glass too. The elote is delicately spicy, creamy and smokey - so good! Pang is one of the best taquerias in Taipei.
Update January 2024 Unfortunately they have removed the tacos that were any good from the menu and what remains now is not great and rather over priced. We ordered the fish taco and the size of the fish is smaller than before and it doesn't even have the crema anymore. The Al pastor was dry and they didn't even add pineapples to it. When I asked about it, they said they had run out. Would have been nice to have known this when I was ordering. Tacos are one of my favorite foods and recently I had been feeling like Taipei needed a new taco place because some of my old favorites had either gone down in quality or had removed my favorite tacos from their menu, so when I heard of this new place and saw the rave reviews I was very excited. I tried 7 of the tacos on the menu and some were excellent, some were better with modifications and others were just not worth it. I would definitely recommend going here to get the cochinita pibil and the Chile relleno. They were both flavorful and delicious. The chorizo and al pastor were decent, but the chorizo meat and the tortilla were both dry from being overcooked. Actually the tortillas of at least 4 of the tacos I got had been on the grill for too long and had dried out. I was most excited for the Baja fish tacos because it used to be my favorite taco at Masa before they discontinued it. The Baja fish taco here was a huge piece of batter fried fish served on a taco with the tiniest amount of crema. It was very imbalanced. I asked for extra hot sauce and was given a lovely habanero sauce. After adding it on top, the fish taco was delicious but as it is currently served, it's too dry. This was a problem with some of the other tacos too, there just wasn't enough sauce and it felt too dry. Tacos should be sloppy. The birria was disappointing, it didn't come with the consomme on the side and the tortilla wasn't dipped in the consomme either. It also didn't taste like anything, the flavor was just so flat. The chicken taco was gross. Maybe it's a personal taste thing, but it was just a lot of meat - well cooked but not well spiced , not enough sauce or flavor. If I could give this place 3.5 stars I would since I liked about half of what I got. I'll definitely go back again, but I'll be sticking with the pibil...
Read moreI've tried nearly all the places serving tacos in Taipei, and these are the closest to upscale Mexican restaurant taste in terms of seasoning/flavor and sauce/garnishment as well as quality of the homemade corn tortillas. There is literally no need to order additional side orders of salsa or guacamole, etc. Trust me, these are bursting with delightful flavors.
I ordered two tacos to start with but immediately wanted to order two more to try after that because they were so good, even though I knew it would be a little too much for lunch. I had the beef birria and cochinita pibil, then the chorizo and chicken sisig. All four were absolutely delicious.
Price is a bit high for the portion size but acceptable and understandable as it's clear that these were carefully crafted with quality authentic ingredients. I've searched for these ingredients for home-cooking myself and they're extremely pricey as well as difficult to find here.
Definitely looking forward to repeat visits. I only wish I...
Read moreLong story short: I went there quite a few times right when they opened and thought it was great but after my most recent trip feel that they are slacking and already going downhill after a year of opening.
The birria tacos/quesadillas used to have decent consomme but now it’s some weird watery tomato concoction. And the pricing is out of control. 520 for three small birria tacos is outrageous with no chips and the consomme is quite frankly bad. I can feel the owners are already penny pitching and cutting corners while already jacking up prices after being featured in the bib gourmand. Seasoning and salsa felt a little lacking compared to before. No specials when I went when before they had at least 3 or 4. Also the fish tacos are already fried and sitting in a container, and they just refry it to reheat. For the price a person is paying, more than California/ US prices mind you, you should be making everything fresh and not reheating the corn tortillas on...
