Tonight I had the first chance to dine at a hot pot restaurant that promised a delightful culinary experience but ended up being quite the opposite. As a big fan of hot pot, I was excited to try their famous selection of Laksa and fresh vegetables soup base. Unfortunately, my experience was marred by a critical mistake: the wrong soup base refilling.
Which we actually had spent over an hour to put all the whole lobsters and seafood to make the vegetable base umami. However, due to the waitress refill it with Laksa without checking, it ruined the whole soup base! The waitress naively said if she could take out the Laksa base by using the ladle. Honestly, how do you take out the base with an already mixed soup based?
Taiwanese really loves hotpot. Who doesn’t know how important will the soup base affect the whole dining experience? Which although they try to give us potentially 25% off for the whole meal and also free our meal. We rejected, as we have insisted to pay the whole meal, as we are not looking for any discount.
While the hot pot restaurant had potential with its inviting ambiance and diverse menu, the unfortunate mix-up with the soup base and the unpleasant experience. I left feeling unsatisfied and unlikely to return, hoping they might reconsider their approach to customer service and attentiveness in the future. A perfect hot pot experience is about more than just the ingredients; it's also about the care taken to ensure every aspect...
Read moreWalking into the store, it reminds me of nights in Singapore. The foliage decorating the outside is soothing.
We ordered the laksa hotpot with a three person set surf and turf meal. We added 600 to get the large portion of short ribs and sirloin because I love to eat beef. I was very impressed with the hotpot which included dried curry leaves and lemon grass pieces. It was very savory and spicy: enough to keep you eating. Yumm! Make sure to keep the fire low and slow to avoid any coconut graininess.
The amount of food was more than enough to make us full… the beef was tender and sweet without getting any unpleasant fatty aftertaste.
The chili sauce that accompanied the beef, recommended by the server, was tart and garlicky. Five stars alone for the sauce. You can ask for more if needed.
If you order the seafood platter, they will cook up an amazing bowl of seafood porridge for you!
I will be coming back with...
Read moreThis is a long overdue review for one of my favorite hot pot places in Taiwan. I love it so much that I take everyone visiting here, and without fail, they love it too. My top tip is to order something with seafood, because at the end of your meal, they’ll use the shrimp heads to make the most delicious porridge—definitely something you don’t want to miss. The homemade chili sauce is incredible and adds just the right kick to the broth.
But what really sets this place apart, beyond the amazing food, are the owners. They’re so sweet, welcoming, and genuinely kind, which makes every visit feel like you’re eating with family. Their warmth and hospitality really enhance the whole experience. If you’re in Taiwan and haven’t been here yet, you’re missing out. This place is a must-try, and I can’t recommend...
