A nostalgic place that my late father often brought me to. I remember the Duck rice dish that I always liked. Well all that has changed. I went there in the middle of tomb sweeping holiday. The first Bolero restaurant nearer to Yanping St., said that they're not serving the regular menu and suggested the $2490 per person course menu. All we wanted was the Duck rice which they did not want to serve. So we walked further to the second Bolero restaurant. On the outside they proudly displayed their regular menu clearly stating $380 for Duck rice. When we went to the table. They're waiter told us they only had a holiday menu. They had the duck rice but it was $580. They added a onion or corn soup though. We asked but they refused to serve just the Duck rice. We decided that we wanted to eat Duck rice so all four of us ordered the same. ..... It was not good. I took the onion soup. It was very bland. When the duck rice came it smelled of dried Bamboo shoot. The duck was not as good as before. In all the years I have had it, this was definitely the worst. They added 10% service charge to an already inflated price. This place has changed so much. The rude little man serving us said that he was the owner. His service was not upto par. We felt some what cheated...
Read moreThis has to be one of the best restaurants I have been to. The restaurant is retro in style, and the food is retro too, but that's a good thing. If you are after some sort of fancy place with tiny portions, then this is not for you as the food here is delicious. Firstly the restaurant is retro in style, please don't change it. The staff are super nice. Next the food is really good. We had a set menu that was retro indeed, salad was delicious, cocktail, steak, prawn and pudding absolutely awesome. The percolated coffee was a wonderful finish. Honestly, I will be back again as this is now my favourite place in Taipei. I travel to the country of Taiwan few times a year and only now have I discovered this place. You can see generations of people come here, older who are remembering different times, their children who are in their 40s, and their grand children. I also saw dating couples which is really nice to see. I...
Read moreThere is no need to mentioned about the "old" which I believe was what drawn some people here (including us). Unforturnarely, this was the worst lunch we had in our entire Taiwan trip. The high price did not justify the customer service and the food we paid for. Despite arriving early before the restaurant opened at 11.30am, there was no one to greet you and service was very slow - there was only one old waiter and he had to handle everything from taking order to laying out the table (simply not prepare before the restaurant open), to serving the food. The western were nothing special but the curry rice and the duck with rice were indeed good; but then again, those two dishes are not western,...
