this market is a paradise for food lovers. From Michelin-recommended eateries to mouth-watering local specialties, Ningxia has it all. Here's a guide to some of the must-try dishes that will leave you craving for more.
Yuan Huan Pien Oyster Egg Omelette A stand that has captured the hearts (and stomachs) of both locals and tourists alike! Yuan Huan Pien's oyster dishes are fresh, plump, and juicy, offering a flavor that’s second to none. The Oyster Egg Omelette is a crowd favorite, along with their oyster soup and garlic-dried oysters. What really stands out for me is the oyster soup – it’s warm, comforting, and packed with the delicate, briny flavor of fresh oysters. Be prepared for a long wait, as this place is always buzzing with eager customers. If you’re in a rush, they offer takeout, and they’ll let you know the perfect time to come back for pickup. It's a great way to grab your meal and explore the rest of the market while you wait!
Liu Yu Zi (Liu Yu Zai Fried Taro Balls) Calling all taro lovers – this is the spot you cannot miss. Recommended by the Michelin Bib Gourmand, Liu Yu Zi is renowned for its deep-fried homemade taro balls. These crispy delights are packed with a chewy and flavorful interior, creating the perfect contrast of textures. There are two varieties: the crispy taro ball, filled with fragrant taro paste, and the egg yolk taro ball, which is savory and filled with egg yolk and pork floss. Both are delicious, but I’m partial to the egg yolk version for that extra savory kick. If you're a fan of taro, this is a must-try!
Rong’s Pork Liver For those with a more adventurous palate, Rong’s Pork Liver is a Michelin-recommended gem. Their specialty is the Pig Liver Soup, but if you're not in the mood for soup, try their Taiwanese-style scallion taro cake – it's an excellent option that I couldn't resist. The flavors are robust and comforting, with a perfect balance of savory goodness in every bite. If you’re a fan of organ meats, you’ll definitely want to stop by!
Lin Ji Spicy Stinky Tofu For the more daring food enthusiasts, Lin Ji offers a signature dish that's both iconic and notorious: spicy stinky tofu. The crispy tofu is fried to perfection, paired with a rich, spicy sauce that elevates its complex flavors. What makes it even better is the option to add tofu skin and duck blood to your dish, turning this street food into something truly addictive. It’s a flavor explosion in every bite, and definitely a must-try for the brave eater!
Zhi Gao Rice Looking for a hearty, comforting meal? Look no further than Zhi Gao Rice. You can choose from a variety of rice options, including pork trotter rice, pork chop rice, chicken rice, and more. Their signature dishes, like the egg and shrimp soup and the braised pork trotter rice, are incredibly comforting. The rice is topped with a generous serving of braised pork, an egg, and pickled vegetables – a combination that’s both satisfying and packed with flavor.
Fang Chia Shredded Chicken on Rice Fang Chia specializes in rice dishes that are simple yet delicious. Their Rice with Shredded Chicken is a must-try, with tender pieces of chicken served on a bed of warm, steaming rice, drizzled with light soy sauce. But for my money, their Rice with Braised Pork is the winner. The sweet and savory braised pork is tender, juicy, and pairs perfectly with the rice. Don’t forget to try their braised tofu, which is a delightful complement to the whole dish.
Burst and Crispy Squid Now, here’s something truly unique: Burst and Crispy Squid. This dish features a whole fried squid stuffed with fresh cucumbers and radish, giving it a crunchy, refreshing contrast to the tender squid. The best part? You can choose from various sauces and flavors to complement your squid. I recommend the Thai sauce and lemon sauce for a tangy, zesty twist. Every time I visit Ningxia Night Market, I make sure to grab a serving – it’s absolutely...

Our top picks are: Yuan Huan Oyster Omelette Featured in Michelin Guide, this was the longest queue we queued for but it’s very fast moving! At the storefront, you can admire the chef cooking up plates after plates of pipping hot oyster omelette! Different from the ones we are used to having in Singapore, Taiwan’s oyster omelette mainly consists of starch and droused in sweet-savory sauce. While it was good, I personally still prefer Singapore’s version, with huge plump oysters and more egg! Tong Nian Papaya Milk This was the best Papaya Milk we had in Taipei! It’s super smooth and they totally nailed the ratio between papaya and milk - a refreshing treat! We love it so much that we got another serving! Yammy Peanut Ice Cream Roll A must-try Taiwanese dessert which consists of shaved peanut candy, ice cream and corriander(optional), wrapped in a thin popiah skin. I personally enjoyed how finely shaved their peanut candy was! And I am amazed by how the coriander adds an aromatic yet harmonious touch to this sweet treat!
Others that we tried: Fried Squid Got it from a random stall while queuing up for Yuan Huan, but it was so good! Tender and moist squid with super crisp exterior! Huan Ji Sesame Chicken We tried their Sesame Oil Chicken and Lu Rou Fan. While it was hearty, I personally find the broth to be watered down or maybe I am used to Singapore’s version that’s richer and more flavorful. Liu Yu Zai Fried Taro Ball Featured in Michelin Bib Gourmand, this is a salty snack that consists of taro and salted egg. When we first got there, the queue was very long but we decided to come back at a later timing and there wasn’t much of a queue. There’s a min. order of 2, so we got 2 of the Deep Fried Taro Balls with Salted Egg Yolk. Honestly, we didn’t enjoyed this as it was really dry… and...
Read moreNing Xia night market is a must visit when you're in Taipei!
There were many street food vendors to choose from. From appetizers, snacks, fritters, main meals & desserts, all types of food were within reach for us to try.
We were recommended by the friendly Uber driver who picked us up in Shilin night market the other day.
Ning Xia is a food only night market, so it's fixated & focused only on serving the good food. Other night market might sell clothings & other stuffs, not only food.
The food that were delicious based on my personal opinion:
-Golden crispy roast pork I could find the name of the restaurant in Google 😂 but it's located on the side, a restaurant with a stand infront of it. It was juicy, moist, tasty with a crispy skin that was perfectly cooked 😋
-Shredded chicken on rice Hubby found out about this menu when he browsed. I underestimated the dish before i tried it. What could be so special about shredded chicken on rice? After one spoonful got into my mouth, "Oh My God!" How come a simple chicken rice could tasted that good?
-Mochi We could get the mix mochi; sprinkled with sesame & peanut toppings. It was not too sweet, chewy & moist, not the dry type which make you want to drink right after. Maybe because it's boiled instead of steamed.
Unfortunately the famous oyster omellete restaurant was closed that day. So we didn't get the...
