Finally visited this traditional breakfast shop nearby my place. Their soybean milk is really nice and the sweetness level were listed clearly on menu, I had a bowl of hot soymilk with half sugar, it tasted exactly right, not really sweet at all. Then I ordered their soup dumplings 小籠湯包, okay, it’s more like dumpling buns than soup dumplings. Watch out! There’s NO soup inside of the dumplings, so I won’t recommend it to you if you are craving for the juicy broth exploded in your mouth. Which I was disappointed with it but the flavor was okay and filling, it’s just not what I expected though. And the chili sauce is not special or spicy at all, the slice of ginger were chopped by themselves cuz it’s kinda thick. That’s not big problem as this price🙂 You may wanna walk few more blocks away to try soup dumplings from 四海豆漿 on the same road👍 About their fried dough 油條 here, it was too crispy for me, I couldn’t taste much dough inside, it’s the best when the dough soaked in the soybean milk bring more texture and flavor. But there are still more choice and inexpensive options to try definitely. I was attracted by their egg wrap/ Danbing 蛋餅, which is handmade crepe by the owner. I would visit again and leave another comments 😋 One thing I really like is they don’t use disposable utensils if you dine in! And clean environment. Such a wonderful job!...
Read more10/10 Recommend: Salted soybean milk+ fried white radish patty with spring onion-egg ⸻ As a local prone to all-nighters and the kind of morning migraines that feel like karmic retribution, I’ve come to rely on a deeply underrated remedy: a steaming bowl of salted soybean milk and a crisp white radish patty, crowned with a spring onion-egg layer.
Salted soybean milk—yes, salted—might raise an eyebrow to the uninitiated. But forget the name. This isn’t some misfired health drink; it’s a comforting, umami-laced soup built with soft tofu dregs, a scattering of dried shrimp, shards of fried dough (油條) gone tender from soaking, and a savory dash of soy and vinegar. Think congee, but with more soul.
Then there’s the fried white radish patty. Golden-edged, subtly sweet, and pan-fried to just the right amount of crisp, it becomes something truly addictive when topped with a smear of garlic chili sauce. Paired with the scallion-egg layer, it wouldn’t feel out of place on a Din Tai Fung menu—except here, it costs less than your average...
Read moreIf you stay at Meander, this is one of the places that accepts their vouchers. The vouchers are as good as cash (I had 10NT extra and the boss lady dropped it into the donation box).
There are menus in English and Japanese. Translate it and transcribe it to the paper order sheet. You can make a lot of different combos like adding egg and ham to your scallion pancake.
The ordering process can be a bit hectic, but it all works once you hand your order sheet over. The boss lady calls out your order and somehow it all gets assembled.
Aside from the youtiao, everything looked to be hand made and fresh; cooked to order (youtiao might also have been made earlier in the day).
Food was delicious and tasty. The clay oven bun was crisp yet chewy. Scallion pancake was flaky and flavorful. A good place to stop for breakfast whether you are in the area or...
