南島百合 Lily Of Island Eatery（搬遷至台東鹿野預計2025/7月重新開幕） — Restaurant in Hualien City

This is such a lovely eatery! I met the owner at a photo exhibition in Taipei (where he was exhibiting his photos), and he told me about his eatery. When I was travelling to Hualien the next month I couldn't help but stop by for a meal.

The interior is incredibly cosily decorated, creating a feel of an oasis in the middle of the city. One can sit indoors or outdoors in the backyard.

The food and bevares are absolutely unforgettable. One might have had some of the dishes here before—like banana and peanut butter on bread and fruit juice—but the seasoning and way they're prepared create unique flavours that you rarely get elsewhere.

The owner, his wife, and the staff were so lovely and made us feel very welcome there 😊 This restaurant is closing down soon and I can't wait to try the new place they are opening up in Taichung later...

The guy behind the counter was supercilious like some sort of Japanese military colonial. Stating the ridiculous condescending rules about how long you can stay (90 minutes) and the minimum you have to order to stay "Not only appetisers". Then when we tried to order he told us we must step up to the counter, all of 2m away. That was enough and we left. If you expect decent treatment as customers and basic manners maybe...

It's a lovely place with great food and tea. I had the matcha dessert and the Red Oolong Tea and both was really tasty. The owners are super nice and they recommended me where to go to buy great tea. It is definitely worth a visit if you are in Hualien. The interior design is lovely too with a lot of plants and nice pottery...
