super long queue when we went on a late morning, once at the cashier, she asked if we found a seat, we said no and she said ok then only can takeaway, can’t dine in but we soon found a seat after ordering so we “dined in” anyways 😁 wanted their 蛋饼 but they ran out of all ingredients (no ham no cheese lol) so only left with original egg only 🙃 it was really super plain and no taste like all i tasted was egg… thank god for the sauce on the table to go with it… we also ordered their macarons to try - 1 strawberry and 1 coffee, the strawberry one tasted very artificial, coffee one was slightly better but we don’t get the hype over the macarons, it was so-so… the black tea was not bad i guess (but get it without milk because the milk overpowers the tea...

update: the herbal tea here (青草茶) is top tier— bitter and strong tasting!! highly recommend it.

famous for mysterious reasons, most of the food at this breakfast shop is average. it’s a good place to try the famously mild hualien macaron (i prefer the “coffee” flavor). the zongzi are decent. the best things here are the 雙面蛋餅 (double egg egg pancake?) and the black tea with no additions. black tea here really is excellent and it comes down from those big pipes— it’s deep in flavor, almost smoky. don’t order the radish cake. keep your...

Unfortunately I have to say, that this restaurant is overrated. We tried the black tea, milk tea, almond milk, raddish cake, fried bread and a pancake. Everything was only mediocre, the black tea too sweet and the almond milk tasted weird, a bit like too much almond aroma and non-natural. The eatable meals were fine but not special... More or less only a mediocre breakfast bistro, so leave out this suggestion which you might got from the lonely planet...

A very quaint, old school looking tea shop situated in front of a temple (thus the name of the shop). This place literally transports you back in time with its decor. Ordered the black tea (the actual Chinese name is translated directly as "red tea"). Tastes rich and sweet. The almond milk tea felt a bit diluted. The carrot cake with egg was delightful and the bacon egg roll was simple and nice. Liked the chill relaxed atmosphere.

Authentic local breakfast “red tea opposite the temple”. Frequented by locals. We had warm soy milk (Dou jiang) and Chinese donuts (Yu Tiao) as well as egg crepes (Dan bing) stuffed with corn and pork floss. The soy milk is fresh, sweetened with sugar. Balanced with the donuts which you dip in. They also serve local macarons and stuffed meat glutinous rice pyramids. A nice casual breakfast.
