Kanpai (Shizheng Rd Store) — Restaurant in Taichung

One of the better choices for premium yakiniku in Taichung. I've been coming here for 7 years now, however, and gradually the items have gotten relatively more expensive and just not as good compared to the increasingly stiff competition from other yakiniku places here.

Their beef tongue is still unbeatable for the price, but other meat items can be a bit more hit or miss. None of it will be bad, but some might be rather ordinary while costing you premium prices. Their non-yakiniku items, however, are extremely good and a welcome change from most other places here which offer solely yakiniku. Great dessert pudding, curry rice,...

They have a promotion to guess the weight of a wagyu steak. If you get it right (or at least under 5 gr difference), you can get it for free. My co-worker got it right and we can enjoy the NT 3000 worth steak for free

In the toilet, they provide A LOT of things, such as alcohol, nail remover, face mist, hair oil, mouthwash, etc. Besides, you can ask the staff at the front desk to bring you sanitary pads or hair...

This was a hugely disappointing experience. The meat didn’t melt in the mouth as expected—some pieces were so tough I had to spit them out. The private room was anything but private, with noise easily carrying over from the neighboring table, making it hard to enjoy the meal.
