Restaurant: Uptowner Taichung
FOOD: My friend and I came for dinner yesterday and we had some finger foods, drinks and other things.
MENU: They have pictures and English Version. They also have some burgers and Breakfast/Brunch options. My friend loves their Chicken Wings. But I would rather go again for a brunch and not for a dinner.
SERVICE: They do their job. It’s fair enough.
PRICE: 1360 兩位 - For me expensive. I can go better places with better food and pay less than 1000 兩位。

Read moreThe foods are delicious no doubt, and it’s has a great reputation. I have been here a couple time already, as it’s hard to find a place like this in Taichung, American style diner.
We ordered some sandwiches, pancakes and an oatmeal. We also ordered an extra scramble egg on the side. Actually the scramble egg is a downer, It’s 40 NTD, not a lot of money, but more expensive than other breakfast diners, and it small with any presentation, it seriously looks like a leftover food.
I know it’s just a side, and it’s not that big of a deal, but when we approached the waitress, and try to make a suggestion that it’d be better to make it looks nicer, and maybe cook a bit more, because the portion is just not presentable, I could even cook better than that. Anyways... the waitress replied: that’s just how much we charge. And she did ask me, so would u like me to change it?
I said: ‘don’t bother’...
A good waitress would apologize and perhaps say: let me see what I can do for you, things like that, but to response like that, they totally don’t understand how I feel.
Anyways a thumb up for other food, but please train on ur egg skills n presentation as well as customer service for your...
Read morePart American diner, part sketch half-step-up-from-dive bar, the sum of which equals crack for (mostly male) foreigners in Taichung. Is legendary, apparently. Five stars for even existing, but it does better than that.
Situated on a street corner, the indoor/outdoor layout and smallish size are perfection. Most dishes are surprisingly true facsimiles of diner food, while others—the salsa, for example—seem to be slight misinterpretations of the originals.
Most of the staff, all local and sometimes tattooed, is kind and speaks good English. As mentioned in other reviews, there does seem to be the occasional drama, but that is all part of the ambiance of a place like this.
Cocktails are just ok, but again, this in line with expectations. Smoking is tolerated along the fringes of the outdoor space.
The Chinese name of this place refers to the Twin Cities, and indeed there exists an Uptowner diner in St. Paul, MN, with a somewhat similar logo. Seems more than a coincidence, and curious to understand whether there is/was...
