This morning, I visited my favorite brunch spot: Supranormal Bakery Café on Chifeng Street in Zhongshan District, Taipei. Every Saturday and Sunday morning, I make it a ritual to come here and enjoy their signature Big Brekkie with Maple Bacon combo.
The dish includes maple bacon, scrambled eggs, potato rosti, sautéed mushrooms, a mixed lettuce salad, cherry tomato confit, baked beans, and more. You also get to choose between a mini croissant or olive oil bread—both are excellent options. It’s a nutritious and flavorful meal, made with mostly original and fresh ingredients. Everything is thoughtfully prepared, which is one of the reasons I love this brunch so much.
To top it off, I usually pair the meal with a glass of juice made from fresh, natural fruits—it’s the perfect way to start a beautiful day.
Besides their brunch menu, the café also offers a variety of daily handmade baked goods. I highly recommend trying the Supranormal egg tarts, brown sugar cinnamon rolls, and croissants—these three are my personal favorites.
The interior of the café is another highlight. The tables are well-spaced, and the environment is both spacious and cozy, making every visit comfortable...
Read moreI was so excited about this place, but it didn’t quite hit my expectations as an Australian (sorry!). I had the Australian big brekkie, and honestly, the only thing that stood out was the croissant. The eggs were a bit overcooked, the mushrooms were too salty, and the hash browns were a letdown - they weren’t crispy and fell apart as soon as I picked them up.
I tried the red velvet latte, which was chocolate and rose-flavored. It was kind of strange and didn’t really match what I expected from a red velvet.
The pastries were total winners! The cinnamon roll, croissant, and egg tarts were all 10/10 - fresh, flaky, and buttery. I’d come back just for the pastries.
The space is small and we heard the wait could be long, so we showed up at 9:30 AM on a Tuesday and stayed until almost noon, and there were no lines at all. I’ve heard it’s a different story on other weekdays, though.
