Frankly speaking, I have been here to this building and the basement a couple of times but I have never noticed this shop! My friend actually recommended and brought me here and we came early and yet there was a queue. The shop was actually sizable but half of it in front is the kitchen and leaving only a small space for dining. Was a wait before we were able to get a table. Discussed for a while before decided to order. My friend actually told me the portion was quite big he would usually takeaway and have it for 2 meals at home, so this time we just ordered to share. So we had a pork chop rice, prawn roll and fried tofu. The prawn roll was good but it was slightly on the oily side. The fried tofu was hot and crispy but the sauce that came with it was average. Then came the pork chop rice and have to say the portion was really big. The rice was considerable with a mix of some sides, and then another plate with just the pork chop. The sides were not bad but I wished there was more of the minced meat with the gravy. The pork chop was definitely the highlight. It was very hot and crispy when it was served and could hear the crunch inside the mouth while chewing. It was very enjoyable even having to share though I wished I could just have the whole thing to myself. Saw some people ordering the curry rice and that smelled pretty good too. It would be nicer to try the pork chop with curry and the curry is more of the Japanese style. Decent meal and very satisfied with the food. Price was definitely cheap since we got to share 1 person's portion into 2. Highly recommended and the pork chop is a must order no matter what else you are going to get. Is the fried chicken good? Looks like it's a big drumstick and thigh. I didn't see anyone ordering that though I saw it while walking past...
Read more金園排骨is extremely famous and long-tenured, so being the foodie I am I hit them up in Ximending one lunch break. This location is in the basement of an old department store so keep your eyes open for it or you may walk around a bit. The basement food court environment was very ordinary but the smells emanating from my predetermined destination was great. I called the pork chop with rice, in tune with the name of the shop, and was pleasantly surprised to receive some hot tomato and egg soup first. So....the main course came and although they fried the breaded surface to perfection and the pork had that nice, chewy texture we all like, the taste was....so-so. Salty, and way too much of MSG or some other spice. I really wanted to give this 5-stars, and they really have a lot of loyal customers, so I won't deduct too many points. All I can say is that my expectations were too high because a friend of mine called it "Taipei's best" --- I'll remember not to believe it on cue when someone calls anything the "best" anymore. Go eat it for yourself without any subjective opinions of others, and it may turn out...
Read moreThe restaurant is located at level B1, take the escalator downstairs. Walking through the mall we didn’t notice they were actually already closed a few minutes😭 they were kind enough to give us a table anyway to dine in. The food came fast, was hot and super fresh.
We ordered the pork over rice 🐷 , the chicken drumstick over rice 🐔, and some vegetables. The rice was not plain rice but came with a little bit of braised pork, tofu, edamame, and veggies over it 🌱🫶🏼🍚
No fuss no hassle, happy to help their customers. We don’t speak Chinese, but one of they employees knew a little bit of English and helped us out with the menu ♡
We wanted to tip them as they were so welcoming despite us dropping by as they just closed. But the man did not accept it! He ran after us as we tried to get away…. “Police police!” He shouted to make us stop haha. In the end he gave the tip back 🫠
Thank you so much for your hospitality ♡
