招牌炸臭豆腐 (Signature Fried Stinky Tofu) = TWD75 (2 Pieces Minimum) 清蒸臭豆腐 (Steamed Stinky Tofu) = TWD65 (1 Bowl) 凉拌臭豆腐 (Cold Plate Stinky Tofu) = TWD40 (1 Bowl)

No Service Charge

This is a Fairly Small Place, with not more than 6 Tables. Not Air-Conditioned, it was Warm within but luckily still Comfortable due to the Cooling 18C Weather outside. Like Most Eateries in Taiwan, there are No Restroom Facilities.

The Whole Eatery is run by a Single Lady who looked like in her 30s. She is Polite and Friendly, but the Google Reviewers are right in that she does not Smile. This doesn't mean she is Unfriendly or Rude however because she is Busy. As I observed her, she is also the More Introverted Type that doesn't really like to make Small Talk with Customers. Totally Understand Why Many Google Reviewers found her to be abit Aloof and Unfriendly.

Due to Text Limit Constraints, I won't go into details describing every Dish here. If you are interested to know more, come visit my Facebook Food Blog: "A Solo Singaporean's Guide to JB Foods (And More!)" to view the Full Review with Photos.

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts

All the 3 Dishes were Very Unique and Culinarily Complex. Even in Taiwan, I have yet to see Stinky Tofu being made at such a High Level as these. Most of the Ones even in Taiwan (especially in the Night Markets) are of the Common Deep-Fried Variety that we all know of. This is the Only Place that I know of that does Stinky Tofu like this. As I read thru the Google Reviews of this Place, it seems that even Local Taiwanese themselves are Impressed with this Place.

Fermentation is a Unique Culinary Science and it actually takes a Certain Amount of Skill to be able to do it. You're basically flirting the Line between Fermentation and Rotten when you're doing this. Its really Amazing how someone can make something So Awful Smelling and yet somehow make it a Country's National Dish.

Even though Stinky Tofu is not something that I'm a Fan of, and I am Truly Horrified by their 凉拌臭豆腐, believe it or not, I still want to give this Place my Highest Score because of how Utterly Unique Tasting the Versions of Stinky Tofus in here were. Never in my Life have I ever tasted Stinky Tofus of this High Caliber as strange as it may sound. 5 Hours after the Meal, my Burps were Still Stinky and Smelt like Rotten Death.

If you do not like Stinky Tofu, this place will not convince you otherwise. This place is truly only for People who have eaten Stinky Tofu before and is Prepared for it. That said, DO NOT Underestimate their 凉拌臭豆腐 even if you think you're a Fan. You have been Warned.

Thanks for Reading. Come join my Facebook Food Blog: "A Solo Singaporean's Guide to JB Foods (And More!)" to view the Full Review...

5 stars for the vegan food 0 stars for the ambiance

I was looking forward to visiting this stinky tofu restaurant after reading an article written about it. From the photos in the article, the restaurant was much bigger then. It's now a small place.

I was going for a late lunch/early dinner around 5:30 pm, so I was the only customer, then. The cook was sitting on the step as I approached. Once inside, I saw big photos with Chinese menu posted on the back wall. Not able to read Chinese, I pointed and ordered the steamed stinky tofu in herb broth and topped with mushrooms and edamame, a generous deal at NT100 for two tofu (NT60 for one).

The dish was quite tasty and the broth wasn't too salty to eat without rice or noodle accompaniment.

I would've enjoyed my food if it wasn't for the loud chatting the hired cook and two, incoming younger staff (I think they were the owner's adult children). Then things got worse and louder when the cook's husband and two young kids walked in to eat dinner with her. Her son climbed onto a table and sat there playing on a tablet while the rest of the family loudly chatted away.

I don't understand why people feel the need to shout at such a high volume when they're literally a few feet from each other. This nonstop loudness left me with a bad taste even though the food was delicious.

Now I'm dreading to go back when my husband fly in next week to join me for a short visit in Taipei. He's also been looking forward to having some good,...

Run by one young lady, since I can't read Chinese characters well and relied on the translate app, I didn't realize I was supposed to mark on the menu order if I wanted to dine in or carry out (I still don't recognize the characters for that as I'm writing this) so I got yelled at for that. The place was empty when I arrived around 7pm as a customer or two was leaving. The space is kind of tight as I sat near where she was doing food preparation and bumped into me and was polite about it at that time. I had brought leftovers from a previous meal in a small container and was about to eat it with my order but got yelled at as I'm not allowed to eat outside food there as well. I ordered the crisy, steamed and cold stinky tofu. Crisy was just ok didn't stand out for me, level of stinkiness and crisp was just average. Steamed I tried at another place in Nanjichang and tasted similar wouldn't tell the difference if it was stinky or not. Cold version is what I would suggest if you were to try this place, as the texture of the tofu really combined with stinkiness as it felt like poop. I would have liked to try their 'burger' but it was soldout. It's a one and done experience for me thanks...

The soft "stinky" tofu with the green & crispy toppings here is absolutely amazingly good! It's ever so slightly bitter, which contrasts well with the sauce. The texture is soft and creamy, reminiscent of a good brie cheese. Fantastic!
