Bandao Beef Noodle Restaurant - 半島牛肉麵⠀ ⠀ The trophy that you can see inside the restaurant clearly shows the quality of the beef noodle that this shop offers. This small and humble restaurant, located near to Taipei City Hall MRT station, offers an award-winning beef noodle that truly warms your heart. With several options on the menu, you can try out their specialty beef noodles, with dumplings as well. Several options of dumplings offered - Leek, Chives, Scallops, and Taro. Together with the beef noodles, braised beef rice (滷肉飯), and many more on the menu.⠀ ⠀ Ordered 半筋半肉(限量) - Beef Noodle with beef meat, tendon, stripes, etc (daily limit). The broth is good, flavorful and definitely on the thicker side of the scale. And not sure if I taste it right, you can feel the tomato-rich flavor too on the soup. Definitely good soup I would say. Next would be the beef - the generosity of the meats is nice, where you can see the thicker cut of beef meats, stripes and tendon, and they’re all awesome in texture - bouncy, flavorful with the every inch of the meat soaked well on the broth, and easy to be chewed. The noodles are bouncy and chewy and what surprised me the most is to see cut radish on the bowl too (which I rarely see one in other places). Overall, the beef noodle is good, definitely worth to try even thought it might be slightly more expensive. I love the chili that they provide on the condiment counter, seriously spicy and blows your mind away.⠀ ⠀ Ordered 干貝韭黃水餃 - Scallops and Chives Dumplings - Nice, flavorful, and good to have together with the beef noodle (as in, if you order just 1 bowl of beef noodle, you’ll feel slightly hanging. Ordering this dumpling plate will be perfect combo).⠀ ⠀ Overall, nice to try it out this champion...
Read moreThe soup is quite light in flavour. They put a sign outside saying that they don't use MSG and some other "beef powders". I didn't see anything about not adding salt....? The noodles are cooked perfectly. They give you a lot of meat. however the price it not cheap. I had half meat half tendon. The price is 239 NDT. The tendons were cooked perfectly and had good flavour.
I wa surprised about their tofu side dish. Is was a bit dry and remined me about tofu in Vietnam. So far the tofu has been great in Taiwan but this was subpar. They also have a sign at each table saying that of you write a Google review, you'll get a side dish for free. I didn't take advantage of this deal.
The chef/owner was smoking just outside a side door that was open. Some people might think this is a not a big deal but I find cigarette smoke very unpleasant and you could smell it clearly by my table.
The smoking and tofu made me give a 3 star review in this case. I respect if people want to eat a lighter type of soup but it was not just that it lacked salt, it didn't have much depth and beefy flavour. Hope they can improve their tofu and smoke where customers don't see them and smell the smoke to their...
Read moreFound it randomly on google map as I was craving for beef noodles.
The shop was small and humble, it's a low key local place located in the heart of the city, the environment was clean and cosy.
half tendon half beef noodle: love its radish tomato soup which was 100% natural without any additives. The texture of the noodle was perfect: chewy and thick; the beef was tender with very nice flavours, and the portion was just right. Dried scallops pork dumplings: I am from Hong Kong so I know what good dumplings are and I had had a lot before. This was definitely one of the best I have ever had.
It's slightly expensive but definitely worth it.
Last but not least, while a lot of restaurants in Taipei offer complimentary snacks or drinks for 5-star reviews on google map or facebook, I truly appreciate how honest this restaurant is, they offer some free snacks if one leaves a review on google map-- not necessarily a five-star review. This, together with the politeness and friendliness of the waiters is the reason I am writing this reference for them. I highly recommend this beef...
