SALE e PEPE — Restaurant in Yilan City

A welcome alternative to many nights of HotPot, noodles and dumplings after 2 weeks of travel in Taiwan / Beijing. If you’re visiting from USA or Europe, this feels like a nice dining experience back home!!

As we walked in, the whole staff (even the kitchen) welcomed us. A cozy dining room of 10 tables with seating for about 40 persons. Kitchen is “open” style and you can hear / watch the chefs preparing your excellent meal.

We ordered the Mixed Greens salad (fresh crispy lettuce w perfect dressing), the Truffle Fries (nailed it) w a fun mustard/ketchup combo dip.

We had the New Zealand Ribeye and the Short Rib steak - chefs nailed our requested Medium / Medium well - both came with Mashed potatoes and some veggies. Excellent.

Added a couple Pasta and a Risotto. And the meal was perfect for the 4 of us.

Probably one of the best Italian restaurants in Ilan. Sale & Pepe builds a very friendly dinning atmosphere by having an open kitchen area and proactive table service. The restaurant has daily special dishes, which are not on the menu, and those can always be served beyond customers’ expectation. The waiter and waitress are friendly and passionate, and they are always willing to recommend good dishes according to customer’s preference.

We will definitely visit again when...

I was truly surprised by the authenticity and quality of the Italian food served here: it is the best Italian restaurant I have found in Taiwan outside of Taipei! I have worked in professional Italian restaurants and am very picky about my Italian food. I have found a few places in Taipei that I find acceptable, but was shocked to find such a wonderful place in Yilan. The food was delicious and authentic, and the service was attentive and hospitable....
