William serves up some of the best teppanyaki in the country! I got to know him quite well partly because I helped give him his English name. The food. His tepp in his simple restaurant is delicious, and it little matters whether you eat the shrimp, beef, pork or veggies. Just so so good. One reservation that stops me from giving him 5 stars is that I think he uses a lot of MSG in his sauce, that, in my opinion, is not needed, as he uses a flavourable home recipe that is enhanced in flavour by garlic and other things. I think that the MSG makes my body itchy and my stomach feel weird that doesn't happen at the many other restaurants I frequent in Tpe. I’ve been to this tepanyaki many times over the years and I’ve alway had a good experience. The food is well cooked, very flavorful, and the prices are quite reasonable. Once seated, your order is prepared quickly and you can help yourself to complimentary soup and ice tea. That’s probably the reason it’s such a popular place for lunch and dinner. Do be prepared to wait a bit because the place isn’t very big and seating is limited. There’s usually many people waiting outside. I recommend the sautéed chicken leg and oyster omelette as that’s what I usually order. The beef and shrimps are tasty as well. Service wasn't the best - one of the servers, a middle aged woman, snapped at us to hurry up and pay and tartly advised us that there were people who'd been waiting outside for 20 mins. Lady, a) we also waited 40 mins, b) no one made the other customers wait 20 mins, c) there isn't a limit on maximum dining time here?? Rude. Food was not bad but in all honesty you can get decent teppenyaki anywhere and it was nothing home to write about for me. Cannot recommend in good faith unless you fancy...
