My cousin made reservations for 5 of us here because she knows how much I love roast duck. We arrived at 11:30 and were quickly seated. The dining room is decorated in the standard over the top and slightly tacky way Chinese banquet rooms all seem to be but it was familiar. There were complimentary plates of sweetened taro and century eggs already on the table and some tea was brought out right after.
There's a 90 minute time limit per reservation and the servers were eager to get our additional orders. The duck was already ordered in advance. We also got the shrimp rice rolls, turnip cakes, fried rice, chicken feet, steamed short ribs and greens topped with white bait.
Plates of scallion with mild chili and housin sauce were brought out before the duck that was presented with steam pancakes and then carved table side. After all the prime meat was carved the duck was taken to the back, cut up and stir fried with more scallions and a sweet, spicy sauce.
The food was really good. My stepdad is a dim sum chef and my family eats dim sum a lot in Taiwan but we all agreed those dishes were really well executed and the duck was definitely the star and was huge! Two of us don't eat duck so the other three did our best but we had to get half of it packed up. You definitely need at least 4-5 duck eaters to finish one in a sitting.
Our total bill came to NT$4100, less than US$26 per person and we were all stuffed. Excellent food and definitely value for money. I would've given 5 stars if the decor was a bit more modern and chic and if the servers were friendlier, but they were fast and efficient and quickly took care of...
Read moreWe always have our important family event here for dinner. Usually the place is full of business people or big family, not that much young people hanging out here. It’s also not a perfect place to bring little ones here, unless you are able to keep them on the seats. You may have to reserve a table weeks ago. It’s a Cantonese style cuisine ( seafood/ dim sum) + Peking duck! They have the best Peking duck in Taipei. And they offer dim sum at dinner time which is rare for traditional Chinese restaurant. They have all the classic dim sum choices here. For example, shrimp dumpling, bbq pork bun, siu-Mai. And classic ways to eat pecking duck: wrap it with awesome sweet sauce and green onion; and they also cook the duck bone meat in a porridge, which is the best for sure!! Inside the place is a bit crowded not too quiet, but that’s the way we eat in Taiwan! and Parking here is valet parking, not too close to MRT station ( you may consider riding YouBike back since you will be extremely full) The staff here treat us like family ( aka not That polite too), they know how much food we need and they know all the dishes so don’t hesitate to ask questions! Come with empty...
Read moreFirst time here, we ordered the Peking duck, beef and veggies, curry bowl and sea cucumber dish
Taste 1/1* Peking duck was one of the best we’ve had, sauce with just the right amount of sweetness and savoury, wrap soft and stretchy, flavourful stir fry that gets even better the next day Curry bowl was surprisingly good, nice thickness, silky and smooth Sea cucumber is not normally my kind of dish, but this one was nicely cooked and seasoned just the right amount
Value 0.5/1* With duck being 3200 + wrap and sauce all separately priced, it’s definitely expensive, but they got every single dish and every single component right, somewhat worth it
Service 1/1* Fast and friendly, a bit too friendly if you ask me
Cleanliness 1/1* No complaints
Overall/Revisit 0.5/1* If we were in the mood and really had the budget, then yes, otherwise special occasion only
Paying for ambience/reputation? 0/-1* NO Above and...
