I stayed in this property recently for 2 nights in their corner one-bedroom suite with two twin beds. I had high expectations for this property, given the rave reviews. My experience was disappointingly average. The property is not good value for money and is overrated. As is customary with my reviews, below is a list of pros and cons:||PROS:|1. Location = the hotel is well-located in central Taipei, within walking station to exits 2 and 3 of Zhongshan Metro Station (the closest exit is Exit 2 - walk up the stairs out of Exit 2, keep walking straight, and then make a right at the next intersection and you’ll see the Doubletree building. There is a large shopping mall (Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Nanxi branch) with many restaurants. |2. Friendly staff at the front desk at check-in = the front desk staff were generally friendly at check-in.|3. Helpful chat feature in the Hilton Honors app = there was a chat function in the app that was useful in communicating with the front desk.|4. Complimentary mini-bar = there was complimentary bottled water, a can of coca-cola, and a bottle of tea in the mini-fridge which was complimentary.||CONS:|1. Dirty sofa with unknown stains = the sofa in the suite was dirty with many unknown stains (see photos). The front desk offered to put a clean bedsheet over the sofa, which was helpful. They also offered to wash the sofa covers but said it would take a while to dry, so we opted for the bedsheet. But one cannot help but ask: why wasn’t the sofa clean to begin with? The corner suite was expensive and it was incredibly disappointing to walk into the suite and see a dirty sofa.|2. Slow lifts = I saw one review which said how they never had to wait for the lifts. Perhaps that reviewer stayed during a slow period. Lifts could be very slow - only two lifts for guests, for the entire building with multiple floors and multiple rooms per floor. You can do the math. |3. Small rooms = this property is not cheap and even the corner suite (which is apparently advertised as among their largest rooms) that I stayed in felt cramped. There are many other hotels in Taipei at similar price points with larger and more spacious rooms. Note the corner one-bedroom suite only has 1 toilet, which was disappointing. At the same price point in Taipei, other properties’ one-bedroom suites usually have 2 toilets. |4. Limited laundry services = as a business traveler I needed to get laundry done for next day’s meetings and they don’t have evening / overnight laundry service, which was disappointing. |5. No universal outlets, no charging cables provided = again, at this price point, it was disappointing that rooms did not have universal outlets, charging cables, or adapters. I had UK-style plugs and could not use the outlets in the room.|6. Poor service attitude at check-out = check-out service attitude was clinical, cold, and robotic. There was no “how was your stay?” There was no offer to help me with my bags and luggage (cab was outside). Again, not acceptable for this property given its star level, price point, and Hilton branding.||All in all, I was disappointed. The sofa was dirty, lifts could be slow, and the suite was not a good value. I would not recommend this property unless improvements especially to cleanliness are made. Yes, the location is good but there are many other hotels right in the...
Read moreDear Doubletree by Hilton Taipei,I would like to offer my compliments to your dedicated team for our very enjoyable stay in your hotel from 3-7 June 2024.We stayed in rooms 1203 and 1205 and the reservation was made under Ms Erica Tan.I had stayed in some 5 star hotels such as Shang Ri La Singapore, Westin Singapore, Ritz Carlton Singapore, Kempinski Xiamen to name a few but my stay in Doubletree by Hilton Taipei was one of the most comfortable and pleasant. The check in by the warm and friendly reception staff was efficient and smooth. When my daughter accidentally dropped one of the delicious welcome Hilton cookies on the floor, the reception staff quickly replaced it with a warm smile. When my daughter teared after knowing that there isn’t a swimming pool in the premise, your reception staff, Tina, immediately walked up to us with a map and suggested that we can go to a nearby swimming pool facilities.Tina also gave us some excellent food suggestions. We had a very satisfying and affordable meal at the Michelin recommended Ji Jia Zhuan ( 鸡家庄), thanks to her recommendation :)Whenever we return to the hotel from a day of sightseeing, the reception team on duty never failed to greet us in a warm and friendly manner. We felt genuinely welcomed:)The modern Japandi style rooms and bathrooms are kept in an excellent condition and feel brand new. We especially like how bright, airy and spacious the rooms are.Kudos to the housekeepers ( Ms Cai Xiu Hui 蔡秀慧阿姨) on level 12 who kept our rooms 1203 and 1205 so clean and comfortable. They always chat amicably with us and confirmed with us if we need any housekeeping service. The TV entertainment system with its 47 channels ( including TLC, Discovery) , Netflix, YouTube and IQiYi really impressed us.The semi buffet style daily breakfast sets( Chinese, Japanese and Western) are healthy and delish and we really looked forward to breakfast every morning. We hope that Chinese baos (包子)and dim sum pastry such as you tiao ( 油条、蛋饼)can also be offered in future when we next pay a visit to your hotel :)We would also like to thank your reception staff and housekeepers who helped my mom who stayed in room 1205 on 6 June when the toilet encountered some flushing issues. My mom had approached the reception staff at around 4 pm on 6 June and the very helpful male reception staff accompanied her to her room and helped remediate the problem along with the housekeeper. She was very impressed by how efficient and friendly your staff were. All in all, your team has done a great job in our stay. Their service attitude are genuine and warm :) My daughter enjoyed her stay somuch that she kept remarking she would like to extend our stay to 2 more weeks:)We hope you will pass on the compliments to your team and the staff we named, as a gesture of our...
Read moreWhat a fabulous stay in this amazing city.||Location: excellent. Many interesting streets, convenience stores, metro station, night markets and supermarkets in very close walking distance. We liked Umeko Taiwanese Restaurant the best.||It’s easy to reach from TPE airport.||We took the MRT from the airport to main station then walked at street level to the hotel. About 3 blocks and 20 minutes but it’s subject to weather. It was very hot when we were there. A little later we found a much better underground route. From the MRT main station follow the signs to Taipei City Mall. Turn right and follow the signs to the red Zhongshan Metro Mall where you turn left then when at Zhongshan metro station take exit 2 (quickest but with steps) or exit 4 (just a touch longer but with elevator and escalator). From there it’s a short, mostly covered walk.||Reception: the front desk is just amazing. Congratulations to the entire team (it’s unfair to name names but Fred, Harry, Charlie, Tina and Anna all helped us). We received two welcome goodie bags. One for being Hilton Gold, one for booking a suite. They usually greeted us as we returned or left the hotel unless they were busy with customers, their English and customer service skills are exceptional. They recommended restaurants for us and even made bookings when language was too much of a barrier. Their recommendations were spot on.||This is a much more interesting area to stay than around Taipei 101 in my opinion.||Room: We booked a corner suite. It was excellent, spacious, super clean, well equipped and comfortable. There is a little road noise but this is Taipei - a bustling city. Even despite jet lag from a long and delayed trip we slept well. Wifi and aircon worked very well. Bottled water was replaced daily.||Breakfast: there was a choice of western or Asian breakfast. It was the same every day but was delicious and more than adequate. The team there were friendly and helpful. (Thanks Savanna.) Clientele were largely business people which meant breakfast was quiet and civilised.||Bar: the lobby bar was relaxing and drinks were reasonable with a 25% discount for gold. The Czech girl (apologies for not remembering her name) gave us some local knowledge that helped. We enjoyed the night market.||General: X factor: a robot can deliver warm cookies to your room. Lifts were never busy. ||This is way better than the Doubletree standard you experience in some other countries. We really enjoyed our stay. It’s the people that make the difference and well done to the entire team. I would stay here again...
