This restaurant is a perfect introduction to Taiwanese cuisine for those travelling with their partner, friends or family.
A way to know if a restaurant is good, is for there to be more locals than foreigners, and this restaurant is one of those. You are greeted with a warm, respectful and lively atmosphere upon entering the restaurant. It is loud but with room enough to talk and enjoy one another’s company without any issues.
The service is friendly, caring, and personal, with everything running smoothly.
The menu has a large variety of different options, all with pictures and english names. The staff are also more than happy to make recommendations to help you along if you are still uncertain.
My favourite dishes were personally the ‘Special Fried Spare Rib’ and the ‘Special Crab Rice’. They are as special as their names imply and I still find myself thinking of them even after a day has passed.
After eating all of the food we ordered, we were pleasantly surprised by hot tea, fresh watermelon and mango, as well as a ‘Deep Fried Taro Ball’. All of which were a perfect way to finish what could only be described as a perfect introduction to Taiwanese cuisine and a perfect introduction to the kindness of the Taiwanese.
I highly recommend to anyone and everyone, that they should enjoy a meal at this...
Read moreAfter a super long day of touristy activities and sightseeing, all we wanted was to end the evening with a special meal—and Umeko Taiwanese restaurant turned out to be the perfect choice. None of us had ever been there before, but we made a blind reservation for our big group and hoped for the best.
We ordered a lot of food (as one does when you’re starving and curious), and several dishes really stood out: the salt and pepper shrimp was addictively good, the squid balls were a hit, the crab with rice was rich and flavorful, the spare ribs with sesame seeds had this perfect balance of sweet and savory, and the steamed fish with mushrooms was so delicate and fresh.
But the unexpected favorite? The crispy chicken. It took a while to come out, but when it did, we couldn’t stop eating it—even though we were all completely stuffed by then. That dish alone made the meal unforgettable.
To top it all off, the 80-year-old owner, came out after our meal and made a point to chat with every table. She was incredibly friendly and had such a genuine presence—it felt like visiting someone’s home more than...
Read moreWife and I went there for lunch on a hot Sunday afternoon. Couldn’t really order a lot but we have a small plate of steam prawn, prawn is fresh but not very sweet. Possibly small to medium size and was cooked well. One of their signature dish is fried pork liver, a dish very hard to cook well. The thickness of each piece varied a bit. The slightly thicker one was cooked to perfection. The edge and surface was very caramalized and the centre was slightly pink ( which to us, was perfect). This would meant the thinner one was cooked fully but luckily they were still tender. Our third dish was oyster omelette. Different variation could be found in different countries and here it was cooked well. Oyster was just cooked and the outer part of the omelet was crisp. We also had a squid ball each. We found that a bit bland. We were presented with complementary peanut mocha to round off our lunch. All in all a pleasant lunch and worth a...
