Do you know why there are so many 5-star reviews? Because they were all washed out with a little favor.
The room policy states that check-in is at 3pm, and checkout is before 11am, with no exceptions allowed for late checkout. There is a fee of 300 TWD per hour for every hour past the 11am checkout time. So if you want to check out at 12pm without paying, the front desk will constantly persuade you to write a 5-star review. Or you can check out on time, fill out a good review, and get a worthless in-house tea as a reward. It's hard for travelers to avoid packing up late or not being able to match their schedule, but these inflexible and coercive rules are already very off-putting.
I originally saw a lot of good reviews, which is why I chose this hotel, only to be fooled by these false reviews. In terms of the hardware, the hotel is a 10-minute walk from the nearest MRT station, and if you factor in waiting at traffic lights, it's at least a 15-minute journey, all without any cover. If you've bought a lot of things and want to put them down for a bit, that's not possible, or if you encounter a sudden rainstorm in Taipei, you'll be in a miserable state. After checking in, I took an Uber and found out the hotel is located in a red-light district, which is the setting of the TV series "Light the Night". The area has been revitalised and seems safer than before, but there are still many bars, so solo travellers shouldn't come back too late at night.
The room is cramped, and you can't even open a suitcase, and there are no luggage racks provided, so if you want to unpack, you can only put it on the bed. In this tiny room, they still insist on designing a small and dirty balcony that can only accommodate one person, as it's the only natural light source.
Before checking in, I saw someone complain that the hallways are very dark and you can't even see the buttons. I thought they were exaggerating, but it's really that dark, like the brightness after a cinema goes dark. Prolonged darkness in a place easily attracts spiritual entities.
Finally, the room doesn't provide shampoo, conditioner, or lotion, only body wash. The slippers are thin paper, and it might be more comfortable to not wear them. The wardrobe has a full-length mirror door directly facing the bed, so the mirror is inevitably aimed at the bed, and you can only choose to face the headboard or the bed. The air conditioning vent is also aimed directly at the head of the bed, and no matter how you adjust it, the cold air blows right at you, causing a headache when you wake up in the morning. The second night, I had to turn off the air conditioning to sleep.
In terms of service, the staff's attitude is unprofessional. I saw on Google reviews that someone wrote there's Netflix, but after staying for two days, there was no manual about it, and I had to ask the front desk, who said you have to request it yourself. Then, after checking out and leaving my luggage, I overheard them discussing the customer.
The only redeeming quality is that the room is relatively clean, and I didn't...
Read moreI stayed here for more than half of my 10-day trip with my parents. Their breakfast brings great satisfaction to demanding older parents. And very clean room, incredibly quiet, even in the middle of the city. I was able to go to almost all tourist attractions at the taxi fare(around $5 US dollars). This location has convenience stores and restaurants right in front of hotel. If I come to Taiwan again, I will definitely stay here. More than anything, I was impressed by the front desk staff doing their best for guests and very professional . Highly Highly...
Read moreIf you don't mind the room being a tiny bit smokey, it is alright.... I'd recommend paying a bit more (500 ntd) to get a room with a window that opens to air out the faint cigarette smell (despite it being a non-smoking hotel supposedly) - all 3 rooms I saw were like that to varying degree... It's tolerable but not ideal. The rooms all seem fine... It's no Hilton but more like a Japanese business hotel. There's a Family Mart just downstairs which is pretty convenient. Frontdesk staff...
