I came here on a boba pilgrimage. This is the birthplace of bubble tea, the mythical motherland where tapioca pearls first met cold tea and changed the course of human snack history forever. I figured if you’re gonna sip boba in Taipei, you gotta pay your respects to the original.

So I did. I went down into the basement of a department store (nothing says “sacred boba ground” like being nestled next to an escalator and a UNIQLO) and ordered a lemon honey black tea for about 95 NTD — that’s less than $3 USD for a large, which in boba terms is basically a steal and a half.

But friends… I regret to inform you…

It was just okay.

Yeah, I said it. This tea walked so other boba could run, but honestly it tasted like it’s been sitting on the couch in Crocs watching Netflix since 2004. Mildly sweet, vaguely lemony, barely honeyed. The vibe was less “boba revolution” and more “hydrated by accident.” I wanted fireworks; I got a polite handshake.

To be fair, I didn’t try the food or desserts, which looked decent. I assume they’re where Chun Shui Tang keeps the flavor now, because it left my cup before I arrived.

But hey — this is still bubble tea ground zero, and that counts for something. It’s like visiting the site of a legendary concert, even if the band has broken up and now sells insurance.

Final verdict: Respect to the OG, but your girl’s taste buds have moved on. Worth visiting once for the story, but not for the flavor fireworks.

6/10 for historical value 4/10 for flavor 10/10 for "I can...

We went here because it is touted as the birthplace of bubble tea fully prepared for it to be over hyped. However, we were really pleasantly surprised!! We got there at 11am when it opened on a Thursday and there was no line. It did start to get busier as we sat at our table over the next hour, but still no actual line waiting to be served. We were given a paper menu to mark what we wanted and give to the cashier to order and the server gave us recommendations! We ended up getting the original milk tea with tapioca, handmade sesame noodles, and chili pork belly. Firstly, the food was 10/10. Both were so so good and pretty filling as well. 100% better than expected. The bubble tea was different from what we have had before, but also very good and paired super well with salty pork and rich noodles. We drink a lot of bubble tea in Japan and the US, and it is usually a lot sweeter at the many boba shops I've been to in my life (I am the type of person to go for 50% sweet at most shops). This boba is not your mega sweet dessert drink even at 100% sweetened. It does however have good tea flavor and is super creamy so we enjoyed it! I also noticed that they have plenty of seating for single diners which I...

Love the Giant Bubble Tea !

Chun Shui Tang was rumored that started the bubble tea in Taiwan, We travel to taiwan, stayed at Airbnb near the Taipei Main Station and go straight to Chun Shui Tang!

We come down around 3pm and there a que line in front of use, it seems people book using app is more faster but we just go straight and request for 4 person. We wait around 15 minutes and got in fast.

Dont worry, they have English Menu in here so you will easy to order the food. We ordered some part : Rice Set with Chicken Thigh -- not my liking Rice set with Sweet Pork -- Tend to sweeter side but i like it Kungfu Mie -- the noodles is chewy and ok Sesame Oil Noodles -- Noodles with sesame oils with 2 Brocoli, overall good noodles. Giant Bubble Tea -- I think you must order this ONE!

Overall, I like the bubble tea in Chun Shui Tang, It is instagramable and you can post it for you friends. For the food is not much, but I still think it is ok.

I think 1 person can spend 200-300 NTD/person in this restaurant.

I will definitely will come again for the Bubble...
