I remember several years ago, when I went to Tokyo . We spent about 3 hours to line up under a big and hot sun to eating at this restaurant. I remembered that time, the restaurant also offered black umbrellas outside the door. Now we can enjoy it in Taipei without going to Japan . The oil that they use is different from other restaurants. So the smell and taste are so good. This special fried oil is sesame. I love all the fried food in this store. After meal you can add a special ice cream to release the greasy fried food. The flavor of the ice cream is pomelo. I love the ice cream so much. This is the most delicious fried shrimp store in Taipei in my book. But you still need to spend time to line up because even in Taipei there is still lots of people love to eat it . Avoid lunch and dinner time, thank you can save lots of time. My sweet tips: 1.If you don't want to eat too much rice, you can tell the the servicer when you order . You can move all the fried food to another plant, then you can enjoy the fried food and the rice at the same time. 日式炸蝦,飯這一家是我心目中的第一名! 很喜歡來這裡用餐! Their meal box is good, but it is better to eat at...
Read moreWe were back in Taiwan after Covid and this was one of the places we visited.
What wowed me for the first time has, with the passing of time, changed.
The tendon signature set is still good for value. The tempura is big in size and seem like they are freshly made and not greasy at all. Compared to what we got back in my country, it is really value for money. The seafood is fresh and the batter is not thickly coated in a mercenary style. You don't bite into a prawn and get astonished that it's all flour and no prawn. At least this part still exists.
We still got a free flow of pickled vegetables - radish, ginger and something else. You just have to wave at a sombre server to bring the extra servings to you.
The sauce for the rice seems to have been changed - the sweetness I remembered is slightly gone, replaced by a very mundane soy sauce's saltiness.
For what it's worth, the place is packed with locals on a Sunday. It's worth a try if you've never patronised this place.
I'll probably be back again when I'm in Taiwan to get...
Read moreTempura bowl from a fairly well known chain in Japan that has opened shop here on the 2F of the Taipei Main Station food court. Everything is made-to-order, so if its busy, be prepared to wait a bit. The tempura was crunchy, the egg cooked just right and the rice was yummy. For those rice lovers, you'll have the option to increase your rice bowl size with a small fee. The menu is fairly small so for those indecisive beings out there, have no fear, you'll only need to choose between 3 types of combos. The meal is served with complementary all-you-can-pour black bean tea and two types of bottom-less fermented pickles that helps to tone down the oiliness. Be forewarned that weekdays during lunch/dinner hours and most all day on the weekends, you'll find this place packed and the line so ridiculously long that it goes across the corridor and down the staircase.
Fair warning it is a lot of fried food so be prepared to not want to eat fried goodies...
