A remarkable vegetarian restaurant off the beaten path in Chiang Mai. It’s a family-run, two story home restaurant tucked into a neighborhood and only accessible by walking down a residential street. It serves a multitude of vegan/vegetarian dishes, fresh juices and smoothies, and homemade deserts. We sat upstairs on the floor mats. There is also downstairs seating with benches and chairs. The room we ate in was warm with only a fan circulating, but every now and then a breeze would swoop in to cool us off a bit. To be honest, we had a feast! We ordered the fried tofu with mushrooms, tomatoes, and onions, the vegan pad Thai, glass noodles with mushrooms, the massaman curry, blue sticky rice with mango, and a ginger honey iced tea. Each dish was served hot, with the freshest ingredients, and the perfect balance of subtlety and kick in the flavors. If you need anything while you’re upstairs, you either have to walk downstairs or call down for assistance, as they’re usually busy downstairs preparing the awesome, healthy meals. If you’re into healthy eating and looking for a change from all the pork and skewers, drop into Aum’s restaurant and treat your body to some deliciousness!

We went to Aum as we wanted to up our veggie intake during holiday and wanted a healthier meal. We were not sure after reading some old reviews that the food was lacking in flavour. However, we were pleasantly surprised by how tasty the food was - perhaps the chef was changed or feedback was taken positively. We had Pad Thai, summer roll, morning glory, green egg plant salad and baked mushroom glass noodles (or some may call "bean threads/vermicelli). Everything was flavoursome. I think they have toned down the chilly for tourists so you may want to ask for extra chilly, but for my family mild/low-heat was perfect. The egg plant salad was cooked green egg plant, the dressing has cardamom/liquorice flavour with sweet/sour dressing. It was very refreshing. The baked mushroom noodles has lots of mushrooms/veg in it, full of umami flavour. We also had carrot juice and mango/mint smoothie. No sugar was added, as far as I can tell, which is how I'd want it. Dishes were mostly around 80 baht with some dishes more expensive. Drinks are around 70 baht. All in, very good food at a decent price in our view.

Aum was one of the stops on a Khao Soi Crawl I recently hosted. 22 of us gathered upstairs to taste-test a small portion of Aum's vegan Khao Soi and rate it based on a variety of categories. Here is a summary of everyone's written feedback: In general, people thought the flavor was good, but light/not strong enough. There were various notes that the broth had too much coconut milk or was too sweet, and that it lacked spice and “curry flavor.” Many noted that the flavor was better when additional chili was added. There was a general consensus that the noodles and other fillings (potatoes, mushrooms) were good, though almost everyone noted disappointment that there were no crispy noodles on top. There were also several notes complimenting the restaurant environment, saying it had a “nice,” “comfortable” upstairs area with a “cool atmosphere” and “great vibes.” Here are the average scores out of 10: Authenticity - 5.55 Value for Price - 6.85 Curry Flavor - 5.95 Quality of Noodles - 6.45 Amount and Variety of Fillings - 6.3

Every post is an expression is one’s own experience and sensations from dining at Aum restaurant. Others’ reviews and ratings are personal and limited if you want to have the same experience. The truth is out there for one to find out. The location, taste, price, service, etc are all subjective to each person and so are the reviews, which is a natural outcome. I’m neither encouraging nor discouraging your visit here. Posted today’s and last year’s pics when I was here. For me, the food was neat and fresh but less authentic Thai. The juice, tempura, Kao Soi and Mango sticky rice were all served together, which from my perspective wasn’t the right order of service. I’d still dine there once in my next visit. All prices compared to similar items short distance away, was high. Please don’t get influenced nor prejudiced by my own experience. It’s totally one’s own perspectives.

We’re confirmed omnivores, but we do love a good vegetarian meal now and again. A local friend of ours recommended Aum (and joined us for dinner); this resto definitely provided one of the better vegetarian dining experiences we had while we were in Chiang Mai. We shared a variety of dishes, highlighted by their superb Green Eggplant Salad and a delicious Numprikaong (the original spicy version - which honestly wasn’t too spicy at all). We had several other dishes, but these were the highlights of the main courses. For dessert we shared the classic - mango sticky rice - and some delicious deep fried banana rolls. Service was good and the setting very chill - particularly the second level which offers seating on floor cushions. Our share of this very generous meal was 560 baht (CDN $23.35) - excellent value for money. Highly recommended.
