Chiang Mai Saloon — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

The reason i went there was to play Foosball with my g/f. I had seen they had a Foosball table there, in the back, behind their pool table. only place in Old City Chiang Mai w a F-S table. We walked to the back , past the pool table and my g/f got their attention and ordered a shot of JD for me and wine for her and I tried to explain to her what Foosball was and how to play. But you have to play it to learn. The table was dirty. old dirt encrusted on it. I asked the nong for a tissue so i could clean off the dirt. She did not want to give me a tissue. they brought our our drinks and i asked again in Thai for a tissue to clean the table and she came back w a rag and wiped off the ball. I asked again - what is there to not understand ? the F-B table was dirty - it needed to be cleaned - and then i went and got the rag and wiped off some of the dust from the table. But the dirt was old and encrusted so it was not coming off. We had fun playing foosball and drinking and talking w the guys having a noisy game of pool. We had to keep on getting the attention of the barkeep and waitress to get our drinks. I did not...

I feel this spot is underrated. The decor is fun, with a nod to the US West. The service is excellent, with the Thai woman owner very hands on, making sure people are happy. If you order carefully, you will be happy with the food. The potato skins and mozzarella sticks were excellent. I saw that some people complained that the cheese sticks were limp, but we were very impressed with them. We will definitely order them again. The Mac and cheese was also excellent. For the mains, the ribs were excellent, the burger was ‘ok’ and the steak was what you can expect for the price - you are better off ordering the ribs. The pool table is impressive, and the other games are of high quality. Overall, we enjoyed the Saloon, and it deserves to be busier than it is...
