Continuing on our 5 week food safari of the best food in Chiangmai and Surat Thani.
We went to Sai Ping tonight, and it was easily the best food in Chaingmai so far, and by a large margin.
The venue is beautiful, cruisy live music, breezes, city lights, the river, the whole deal. We waited less than 10 minutes for a table at peak without a booking.
We had the fried morning glory, expecting that dish. However, it came with the MOST amazing shrimp side dish. We tried to work out what was in it, but it was highly integrated. So well put together. It was powerful, chili paste, tamarind, palm sugar, fish sauce, lime juice, banana flower, Heaps of other ingredients that we couldn't quite pick. I scored it 15/10, no joke. Astounding. I will come back just for that, for sure.
We also had superb tom yum goong, fried snapper in pepper sauce, and a tom sum fruit.
The only suggestions I could make (personal preference only), is the addition of a tablespoon of honey to the snapper, and a little less garlic in the tom sum fruit.
Absolute congratulations to the chef and team. Stunning.
This restaurant is not cheap, but we found it worth every baht on the night. A special night out.
We come here every time we are in Chiang Mai. Beautiful venue, great food and service, generous portions, not expensive.
Back again for our last night in Chiang Mai. We had a superb hung le, (11/10), strong, robust, generous. Solid ginger coming through, perfect.
We also had very good crab fried rice...
Read moreThis was a bad experience. I had a printed translation sheet with me to explain that I am gluten intolerant and vegetarian which I gave and I asked for help from the first waitress who said stir fry veg and rice, happy with that. Quite some time later my husband was brought his food, nothing for me. I waited politely then used Google translate to politely ask if my veg and rice were coming. Another two members of staff got involved saying I'd had it. Bizarre. Where was it then? I tried to patiently explain it was not delivered. They started looking on local tables for it. Very weird. A waitress told us it was her who'd brought it to me, but she'd not been to our table before. So we showed my translation paper again and I was promised food. A long time later yet another staff member brought me batter coated veg. No good for me of course being gluten free. So we showed my paper again. More fuss. My husband was cross, he'd half eaten his meal but that was now cold, I still had nothing so he told them we're finished. They still looked blamey at us. So we left, we'd already been there about 90 minutes and I was hungry and upset. Next thing, three of them are chasing us down the back street demanding payment. We said no because they hadn't fed us a meal so they called the police. Very upsetting. They were very dishonest people and very unpleasant. In the end my husband paid 750 baht just to get us...

We went to the shop on Friday 17th DEC night, we got asked by the staff if we’re vaccinated and if yes, need to show the document OR if no, we have to do the ATK test before entering the restaurant which is 100 bath per the test/person. We are not vaccinated and we denied to do the ATK cuz I was calling the shop before we leave but no one informed us about this new measure. They should have told us before so we don’t waste our time coming here.
Original review: Original Thai restaurant with the REAL Thai taste. If you can’t eat any spicy food, you MUST ask for no chili at all in every dish. Most of the dishes are for sharing but they also have the single dishes in the menu also.
Good for the group of friends or family. Even nice for the couple if they can have the seat next to river.
If it’s weekend, the restaurant will be a bit busy and you’ll get your food a bit late so I suggest to go before 6pm and order quick to get your food faster. And don’t go here when you’re...
