I recently dined at Uchi Japanese Gastro, intrigued by its menu and the allure of Japanese cuisine in Phuket, where finding clean and fresh sushi places can be quite a challenge. My experience, however, was a mix of highs and lows, primarily tilting towards the latter.
Firstly, the pricing felt steep considering the overall quality of the food. I found the dishes to be overly salty and drenched in sauce, which overshadowed the natural flavors one would expect from authentic Japanese cuisine. The rice, heavily seasoned, further amplified the imbalance in taste.
A particular disappointment was the salmon gunkan, which was exceedingly salty. I felt compelled to inform the chef via the waiter, hoping for some acknowledgment or adjustment, but it seemed to go unnoticed. Additionally, the Tsukune with egg, a dish I was looking forward to, left much to be desired. Its flavor profile leaned more towards Thai skewers than the traditional Japanese Tsukune I've savored in various parts of the world. The texture of the meat was too loose for what is traditionally a tightly packed meatball, and the yakitori sauce did not carry the authenticity I was anticipating.
Despite these culinary missteps, Uchi Japanese Gastro might still appeal as a nighttime hangout spot for those craving sashimi, given the scarcity of sushi restaurants in Phuket that meet the mark for cleanliness and freshness.
An additional drawback was the air conditioning, which was uncomfortably warm for the local climate, further detracting from the overall dining experience.
For a solo dining experience, the bill came to 1900 THB, which, given the quality and my feedback, felt excessive. While the ambiance might suit a casual outing with friends, the culinary aspect of Uchi Japanese Gastro requires refinement and a closer look at authenticity and...
Read moreAlthough the food was fine, our evening was ruined. The manager (unfortunately don’t know the name, but it was the man with the dark brows and beard) was unbelievably rude and angry although we didn’t do anything bad. He tried to convince us that our table is booked only for 1,5 hour, although it’s 2 hours per one stay in this restaurant. He shouted and argued in front of other guests. The problem was that part of our family was late due to traffic. But the other part already started ordering and eating and we didn’t claim for more than two hours! We are the family of seven and we would have ordered half of menu or more :) It was very sad and I hope it’s not a regular practice in this restaurant and probably the manager was tired. But it was still too rude. And he mentioned our nationality and said it was problematic! This is unbelievable.
UPD: We came at 5:55 (three people out of 7 came, the table was booked for 6 pm) and started ordering!!! We ordered dishes for the child and then for us. We ordered for 6 751 B, and were planning to order much more but stopped because YOU started arguing. This is awful that you continue arguing here and mentioning nationalities. No one told us that the table for 1,5 hour instead of 2 hours! You told me that at 7 pm when we wanted to order more food. Even in RUSSIA the service is much mich better. And your service is just awful and it’s very sad that you are such an angry person. I wish you all the best. Would never...
