Great food at cheap prices. The owner and staff are very friendly. I discovered this great little restaurant after 10 days in Kamala, and it definitely had the best food value. We went on a night they were offering a chicken or pork schnitzel buffet. Both types of schnitzel were very good and the sauces, salads and side dishes were delicious. Cost was 200 baht per person, not including drinks. The place was very busy on the night we went, and in the tradition of many restaurants in Germany, sharing a table was encouraged. We shared a table with a Swiss gentleman, and enjoyed an interesting conversation over dinner. Bring cash as, like many restaurants in Kamala, they don't take credit cards. It's located on a back street, sort of behind the Palms Hotel - from the main drag, enter the alley just north of the Palms (there's a large lighted "BS Hotel" sign at the alley, along with a small, barely noticeable " Kokosnuss" sign). After winding down the alley, turn right onto the wider, concrete slab road, and the Kokosnuss will be ahead at the corner where the road turns left. Planning on going back again tonight for the pizza and...
Read moreMy recent visit to this restaurant, specializing in Austrian and German dishes, was unfortunately disappointing. Both the quality of the dishes and the service, as well as the ambiance, did not meet my expectations.
The main course, Kassler with sauerkraut and potato salad, which looked promising on the menu, was far less appealing in reality. The Kassler, fried in a pan – which I had not expected – was dry, tough, and inedible. Additionally, there are concerns regarding the cooking temperature for cured meat.
The sauerkraut, finely chopped, tasted more like spoiled white cabbage than traditional sauerkraut. The potato salad also failed to impress.
The staff’s response to my constructive criticism was also disappointing. My comments were acknowledged but deemed irrelevant, despite my intention to contribute to improvements.
The uninviting ambiance of the restaurant further contributed to an overall unsatisfactory experience. Nevertheless, I plan to give the restaurant a second chance, as I greatly appreciate European cuisine and hope for an improvement on...
Read moreWent for the German food, which was good. German food can be bland and Kokosnuss is...well, authentic German food. Considering they bill themselves as a bakery, too, the dessert options (at least on the dinner menu) were disappointing and came out frozen and freezer burned. The place is bizarrely decorated, a little dirty, and has a menu/tome larger than some religious texts, with an out of control number of options (took me and the waiter together a couple of minutes of flipping pages to find the water options). All of this is mostly endearing.
I'd recommend Koksnuss if you're looking for a change from Thai food and want a fun experience. The prices are good and the people...
