The restaurant is very beautiful and the location is just stunning but the food is absolutely atrocious, which is a shame.
We ordered the rotisserie chicken, which had almost no meat on it's bones, was served with a teacup worth of quartered Champignons and a bowl of bland rice, the white snapper, which was served as a whole creepy looking fish, again served with a small bowl of rice and no sauce, and the salmon, which was fine, as it least was served with some sauce. Someone should notify the chef that spicy oil does not qualify as sauce and the food as is, is far too dry to be served. We also had a Pina Colada, which barely had any coconut milk and tasted like apple juice.
The service was sadly not much better. With a baby in tow we were seated right next to the smoking area, and as the food was served the waiters basically just spotted the plates wherever, instead of handing it to the person who ordered, resulting in a lot of shuffling. This is not something you would expect to happen even in a mediocre restaurant.
The plates and bowls look very cheap, plain white, and make you feel that just as much effort went into țhe decor, as in the food and service arrangements. The waiters uniform consists of a Japanese bathrobe and open toed slippers, which I don't appreciate for a fine evening dining experience.
During our 3-week culinary experience around Phuket this was one of the highest priced restaurants, and sadly one of the most...
Read moreService over substance - I love eating in nice restaurants and appreciate good service but at Mom Tri's the service borderlines stalking. No sooner you put down the fork or chew your last mouthfull they take your glass, plate, fork etc away. They are so quick, you literally finish the meal in record time.
Perhaps this was because the restaurant was mainly empty but it felt like there were far too many waiters sitting around watching us.
I wish they focused more on the food taste. Yes the view is gorgeous but we are staying in the hotel so we can get the view from our room or the pool area.
I get the fusion thing but I fear it's more about the look and less about the taste.
The Tom Yum was nice, I've had much better, the vietnamese rolls were tasteless, the satay chicken and prawn salad were ok, nothing to write home about.
I come to Thailand not just for the beaches and nice weather but because I love Thai food. It's a shame that the menu at both Mom Tri's feature western food and fusion over traditional Thai dishes - I think they are missing a trick to distinguish themselves from the other 4-5 star hotels on Kata Noi.
Currently there is no choice for great quality Thai food in decent surroundings with good service. It's either too cheap along the beach or fusion...
Read moreWe went to Mom Tri’s Kitchen because ChatGPT (yes, I know first mistake) recommended it as one of the best spots in Kata Beach. We trusted the hype… but honestly, it was nothing like that.
The vibe? Let’s just say it felt like we accidentally crashed a retirement anniversary dinner. Mostly couples in their 50s and 60s, a few younger pairs and the occasional family. It turns out it’s the restaurant of a hotel.
We had checked the prices online, but when we got there the menu was totally different (and pricier). Still, we stayed hopeful with those views and that reputation, how bad could it be? Well… it turns out, pretty bland.
My friend’s crab pasta came with five lonely raviolis. I ordered the ceviche, but it wasn’t really ceviche — it was more like “a philosophical reflection on the idea of ceviche.” No salt, no flavor, no love. Then came my salmon with mashed potatoes, which sounded promising but ended up being the most flavorless salmon I’ve ever had.
Service was okay-ish. After 15 minutes of being invisible, I had to call someone just to place our order.
In short: beautiful location, but definitely overrated. Maybe it’s great if you’re 60, love quiet dinners, and don’t mind food without much personality. For us… not...
