I spent 2,343 THB on a mediocre meal for what was supposed to be a very special Valentine’s dinner with my special person. I made a terrible mistake of ignoring all the negative signs that the owner of this establishment does not care about giving customers a good dining experience in exchange for their hard-earned money.
The insult started when the staff got my name completely wrong over the phone. When I got to the restaurant they simply didn’t have a way to verify that I made a reservation. They questioned whether I was at the right restaurant.
Then the menu, how hard would it be to included simply pictures of food item. These are not your everyday meal. People generally don’t have pictures of Spanish food etched into their brains. It’s very hard to order food here.
Then the staff, we got very unlucky since the server who looked after our table was very new to the job. When asked whether they had Calamari, he had to run back and ask a colleague.
Then the restroom, it smells very musky and unclean. You can tell it’s been neglected.
Then the food. Oh god the food. To be fair they did have 1 or 2 good menu items. But the highlight which is the Paella was so screwed up that I don’t even know how this passes as a Michelin star Spanish restaurant. The seafood Paella came with shrimps that were both not fresh and half-cooked. When I removed the head, the liquid of half-cooked shrimp came out. I probably will get food poisoning tonight. The rice itself was hard and seems uncooked. Every dish came out somewhat cold and seemed to be precooked. There was a feeble attempt at presenting the dishes well but the details were lacking and the food mediocre.
When you pare all of the above up with an average price of 1,200 per person, you get very angry at yourself for falling for Google Reviews and ignoring all the 1-star reviews.
I feel sorry for myself for making the mistake of spending a very special evening here. I vow to never make the same mistake again. I hope that this is of value to whoever bothers reading this and I hope that the owner opens his/her eyes, otherwise this establishment will most likely end up getting emptier and emptier to the point where it’s...
Read moreColds cuts and cheese, tomato salad, and steak were decent, but unfortunately the seafood paella (supposedly their speciality and the reason we came) was pretty awful. Dry, overcooked and congealed. There was also lots of sand in the clams and mussels, suggesting poor preparation. Wine menu was extensive but dramatically overpriced, even for Thailand. All in all, average at best, only saving grace was the steak and salad - both were decent, but definitely faaaar better options nearby for the 7000THB we spent. We won't be returning
EDIT IN REPLY TO OWNERS RESPONSE. I understand you are not happy with my review but your response is very patronising. Yes I am very familiar with paella given half my family are Spanish, but thank you for suggesting your customers are too ignorant to know what they are eating. Speaks volumes about how you view your customers. I am well aware that paella is a dry dish, but I also know the difference between a dry dish and an overcooked dish. Unfortunately it doesn't detract from the fact the seafood itself tasted like cardboard. I didn't comment on the freshness of your ingredients, as you claim, I noted that all the clams and mussels had grit inside and out suggesting limited scrub down in preparation. You can refuse to listen to feedback, but like it or not your food quality was low given the price charged. In so far as you claiming we ate everything, you clearly did not see as we left at least 1/3 of the paella for all all reasons I've stated. Yes we opted for for a cheap Rioja as you were asking for €70+ for mid range wines. I understand wine comes at a premium in Thailand but your prices are unreasonable. Just for your condescending response I have dropped my review from...
Read moreThe atmosphere was delightful; the restaurant features a warm and inviting interior with spacious seating that made our meal all the more comfortable. It’s the sort of place where you can easily relax and enjoy the company of friends or family.
However, I found the prices to be on the high side, especially when considering the quantity of food served. While I appreciate quality over quantity, I felt a bit let down by the serving sizes given the menu prices.
The seafood paella came highly recommended, and I can understand why. It was flavorful and well-cooked, although I think it could benefit from a bit more seafood for the price tag attached. The pork paella was decent but didn’t stand out in the same way. The grilled chorizo was a highlight—spiced perfectly and deliciously savory.
We also tried the ham croquettes, which were a pleasant surprise. They were flavorful and outshone the crab and shrimp variety that we also ordered. As for dessert, the flan was genuinely delightful, creamy and rich, providing a perfect finish to our meal. Unfortunately, the churros fell short; they were soggy and soft, and the accompanying chocolate sauce lacked flavor.
Service was friendly and welcoming, but I felt it could have been more attentive, especially during the busier times when our drinks ran low and we had to wait a bit longer for our check.
Overall, the Arroz offers good food quality, particularly in certain dishes, but I think the portion sizes need to be adjusted to meet the higher price point. While I would definitely recommend trying the seafood paella, don’t skip out on the flan! With a few tweaks, this restaurant has the potential to elevate the overall dining...
